Final Project Help / Suggestions:

This is a typical method for a design that starts with a rough sketch, a list of design requirements and no part dimensions. For this problem you have a drawing with a scale at the bottom.

Getting Started.

1. Draw a sketch for each part in the assembly

2. Dimension the features on the part extension line and dimension line, lay it out, take the dividers, measure the distance on the drawing between the points to measure, move the dividers to the scale, read the dimension, write that on the sketch. Continue this until all the part feature are dimensioned.

a. Round off the dimensions to the nearest 1/32 inch or .030.

b. Other features to the nearest .100

c. Do not need as an example .4379, make it .440

3. Move to the second part and continue on.

4. For two parts that mate together verify that both dimensions are the same. As an example the distance between mounting holes.

5. Once the parts are dimensioned move to solid works and build the models based upon the dimensioned sketch drawings.

6. Generate the detail drawings for each part. Also verify the size / dimensions between related features will fit. Check that all the dimensions required to fabricate the part are defined. Follow the dimension rules. Check your partners (each others) work for missing information etc.

7. Put the assembly together. You can also check the parts sizes using the SW tools measure function.

8. Print out each of the detail drawings and verify parts sizes that are related.

9. Complete the top assembly drawing.

Caution:

Starting off with solid works without the part dimensions is time consuming. You decide.
