This study aims to describe the strategies for effective communication when managing disruptive behaviors in the workplace to promote patient safety. Disruptive behavior occurs when professionals act disrespectfully in the workplace; it involves incivility, physical or sexual violence, and psychological violence. According to this study, effective communication can be achieved through team meetings with open discussions, performance evaluation, and feedback. Leadership can also emphasize supporting individual workers through training, recognition, and mutual respect. The study participants stressed the importance of active listening to reduce the occurrence of disruptive behavior. Training and leadership strategies focusing on interpersonal skills can effectively address and minimize disruptive behaviors in the workplace because communication is vital in addressing issues with unprofessional conduct. This study contributes to professional practice by shedding light on the topic and promoting better training of professionals.

The study involved systematic review literature on CINAHL, Pubmed-Medline, and Embase. The purpose of the study was to discuss workplace incivility, bullying, and lateral violence among nurses. Unprofessional behavior among healthcare workers compromises patient safety. The communication strategies to combat such behavior in the workplace include increasing awareness of the unprofessional behavior among nurses, managers, other healthcare workers, and administrators. In addition, the management should consider performing informative, educative, and training campaigns to implement prevention and providing assertive communication skills to all healthcare workers to enable effective management of conflicts.
