EE 213 Electrical Circuits II Projects

 The aim of these research projects is to prepare students in exploring applications

of Electrical Circuits field. Each student is to research an innovative Electrical

Circuits technology application, write a standard summary report and give a

class presentation of his findings. The exercise is divided into stages with

deliverables and due dates set in advance.

 The specific objectives of the Research Projects are:

1- To help students in the understanding of the importance of Electrical Circuits

applications field more closely and appreciate their importance in our daily

life

2- To give students the chance to explore the scientific research world of

advance technology

3- To train students on using library resources

4- To teach students in preparing scientific reports using IEEE standard format

5- To train students to give technical presentation

 The final grade depends on the following achievements:

1- The novelty of project’s title and subject (new subjects are encouraged, not

from the previous list at the end of this document)

2- The progress of the work during the semester (Prompt submissions :Title,

Report, Presentation and Evaluations)

3- The clarity, the consistency and the format of the summary report

4- The clarity, the illustrations and the approach used in the final presentation

5- No cut and paste will be accepted. Maximum “Turn It In” similarity report 3-5 %. If

not followed, then the project will be cancelled.

Please select one of these options

Option # 1, Classical Novel Electrical Circuit Technology Subjects: Grade is out of 6%

Option # 3, Curiosity MSL Rover or Mars 2020 Rover Applications: Grade is out of 8 % *

*(2 % extra bonus points, Max Class work 20%).

Schedule of Tasks

Task # 1 Selection of Titles Deadline: 2nd of Feb. 2020 (9:00 am)

Do a careful search of different Electrical Circuits technology applications using Internet search

engines, i.e. Google or Scopus. (https://www.scopus.com/home.uri from KFUPM library website).

Select an appropriate application as your topic. Each student must select an application different

from the rest of the group. Submit your title using Blackboard’s e-mail system. For maximum

benefit and novelty purposes, the title selected should not be a title used for other courses or

assignments in your career. Titles will be assigned based on first come first come bases.

Students are encouraged to consult with the instructor for help and guidance.

Task # 2 Selections of References Deadline: 9th of Feb. 2020 (9:00 am)

Find and read at least two suitable references of the title that you have been assigned in task # 1.

Other references may be used fully or partially to help in understanding the subject.

Task # 3 Project Report Submission Deadline: 22nd of March 2020 (9:00 am)

Prepare and submit a two page summary report of your title based on IEEE standard Two-

Column format. Read the IEEE format and samples before writing your report. The report should

be submitted as a PDF file. The report should be easy to read by all students and should contain

the necessary information needed to give a through idea of the topic. The report should contain

an abstract, introduction, main topic and a summary/conclusion with references at the end.

Hint: Avoid including too much technical detail and also avoid adding too many pictures. Give the

PDF file the following name: your class serial number according to your sequence in the attendance

sheet, short title, and your last name, e.g. 6- Rail Gun – Al-Khaldi.

Task # 4 Project Presentation Submission Deadline: 31st of March 2020 (9:00 am)

Prepare and submit a 10 minutes PowerPoint Presentation (PPP) (around 8-15 slides max.) of

your topic. The presentation should give the rest of the class a good review of the subject with

useful information for engineers. Hint: avoid complicated technical terms and concepts as much as

possible. You may use pictures and videos for illustration purposes. The submitted PPP should have

the same name of the submitted report given in task # 4, e.g. 6- Rail Gun – Al-Khaldi.

Tips for good EM Research Projects (Reports and Presentations)

Due to the limited space and time of the report and the presentation, concentrate on the

relevant information, the coherence, the format and the final appearance. Try to strike a

balance between history, present and future of the subject and also addressing the

following important issues.

 History of the technology and its evolution

 Mechanism: Electrical Circuits technology applications (How does it work?) Some

technical stuff: (i.e. frequency, sizes, power consumptions, material, interactions,

etc.)

 Engineering Aspects (advantages and disadvantages, practicality, expenses, ease

of use, comparison with other technologies, etc.)

 Importance: why it is so important to have such a technology. What would be the

world looks like if such technology has not been invented yet.

 Applications and Usages: i.e. in communication, medical, aviation, military,

recreational, food, etc.

 The future: of this technology

In the report: due to the limited space, try to use two to three small figures.

In the presentations: try to use bullets and illustrations as much as possible: plots,

pictures, and videos. Do many rehearsals with friends before the delivery of the

presentation.
