 Choose a grade level you would like to teach  Develop a classroom management plan based on that grade level

Include the following components in your project: A. Title Page

 Name, title of project, course, instructor, grade level, subject area (single subject only), date submitted

B. Sections: 1. Room Environment (5 pts.)  Blueprint of the classroom showing desks (students and teachers), small group

work areas, class library, chalkboard or whiteboard  Drawings and written description of two bulletin boards you will create for

the beginning of the year  For multiple subject candidates create one bulletin board that focuses on

getting to know students, the other one dealing with a subject area focus (math, science, soc. studies, reading etc..)

 For single subject candidates create two bulletin boards that focus on subject matter content

2. Behavioral Expectations (5pts.)  A list of potential behavioral guidelines (limit to 3-5)  A list of tiered consequences for first, second, third etc..offenses as well as

severe infractions *For students in special education program create a list of possible consequences that may be a part of students’ IEP’s.  A list of potential rewards (consider individual, small group, whole class) 3. Procedures (5 pts.) A list of procedures you will have in place for the following situations:  Beginning of the day or Beginning of period (secondary)  Attendance  Sharpening pencils/getting new ones  Getting drinks  Using the restroom  Lining Up (elementary only)  Students who have questions  Getting students’ attention  Labeling papers  Turning in Assignments  Homework-When is it due? Where to put it?  What to do when finished with work  End of the day or end of period (secondary)

4. Daily Schedule (5 pts.) Elementary  A daily schedule that breaks the day into sections and includes times when

various subject areas will be taught, recess and lunch breaks as well as transition activities students will do at the beginning of the day and after breaks to get them focused on learning (ie. silent reading, journals, math time tests)

Secondary  A schedule that breaks a period into sections that include transition activities

students will do when they enter class, instructional time, what will occur at the end of the period

5. Group Building Activities (5 pts.)  A list of 10 grade level appropriate group building activities you will use

during the first few weeks of school to help students get to know one another with a brief description of each activity (must utilize at least two different sources for your activities) *you may include actual copies of the activity if you have them

 Cite the source for each activity * Note: energizers do not necessarily count as group building activities unless

they help students get to know one another 6. Communication with Parents (5 pts.)  An introductory letter to parents, written in your own words, that describes

your background, your goals for the class for the year and opportunities for parent involvement

 Questionnaire you could give to parents that would help you get to know their child

7. Social Emotional Learning/Restorative Practices (5 pts)  Provide a description of techniques you will use to promote students’

social/emotional learning and help students resolve conflicts 8. Resources (5 pts.)  Create a reference list of at least 10 books and/or web sites that would serve as

good resources for you as a first year teacher that relate to classroom management

*List may include some of the books focused on in class but need to also include some resources you have located as well. Note: For teachers who have already taught for a full year an alternative assignment will be provided (see instructor)
