Students will learn the principles of inclusive education and acknowledge the significance of diversity and equity when teaching at classrooms.

Lesson objectives:

1.Explain what inclusive education and diversity in learning is all about.

2.Recognize obstacles to student participation.

3.Discuss the significance of fair teaching.

4.Engage in group discussion on inclusive classrooms.

Introduction:

The lesson starts by giving a brief introductory video on inclusive education and classroom diversity. Thereafter students will engage in a facilitated discussion and give previous experiences of what they have observed in terms of inclusion in schools.

1.View a video on how to teach inclusively.

2.Go through a brief article on obstacles to student learning.

3.Engage in a breakout group discussion of classroom situations with a variety of learners.

4.Finish a Padlet exercise in which they add some of the strategies that teachers can implement to help with inclusion.

5.Discuss the idea of the classmates and give positive feedback.

Consolidation:

A collaborative discussion will enable the instructor to sum up major ideas of inclusion, diversity, and equity. Students will fill out a brief reflection on one of the strategies they would adopt to make their classroom inclusive.

Challenges that could arise with the technology:

Students can have problems with internet connectivity or can have problems accessing Padlet. To solve this, all lesson content and videos will be posted in Canvas and students will be given the choice to turn in written tasks in case of technical problems.
