Format for Identifying Critical Elements of a Research Proposal

Directions: In writing the Preliminary Research Proposal, follow the Format for Identifying

Critical Elements of a Research Proposal (See Below). Develop a detailed 10 to 12-page

proposal on an approved topic related to any area of interest, preferably a topic that you would

like to explore for a long-range research project. The proposal should include the following:

purpose of the study, problem statement, rational or justification for the study, research questions

and/or research hypotheses; literature review; research design, population and sample,

instrumentation, procedures, data analysis, and statistical methods. NOTE: This preliminary

research proposal should be developed from your approved topic.

• Research Questions and Research Hypothesis

• Operational Definitions

Chapter II – Review of Literature

• Overview

• Discussion of Critical Elements in Studies by Subtopics

• Critical Review of the theories and previous research studies

• Major themes

• Relationship of problem with previous studies

• How present study will extend literature.

Chapter III - Methodology

• Research Design

• Population and Sample

• Instrumentation

• Procedures

• Data Analysis

• Statistical Methods
