SWOT Analysis Canada

Comment by Michelle P: Hi Abdirahim, and welcome to the Online Writing Center (OWC). I am Michelle, a fellow graduate student with Liberty University, and I will be reviewing your paper. You have chosen a full review, asking that your paper be reviewed only for glaring errors in sentence structure, word usage, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, other grammar issues, and formatting issues with APA 7. I cannot edit the paper for you, but I will make some helpful suggestions and point out opportunities for improvement. I cannot point out every instance of every issue, so please take those I do point out and use them as examples of the kinds of things you can look for during your revising and editing. When you see the words “apply throughout,” this means that this is a recurring error on which I will no longer comment. You will need to locate and correct other errors of this type throughout the remainder of your paper. Be sure to review the APA 7 formatting requirements before submitting your paper for final grading. Compare your paper against both the template from your professor and the Liberty requirements for formatting. . If you haven’t already, I would strongly suggest you purchase either a physical or digital copy of the APA 7 manual because it is a very helpful resource that I will reference during this review and I personally use quite often. There is a great online resource for the basics of APA 7 formatting at https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2020/04/Sample-Paper-APA-7th-professional-version-06172020.pdf. I hope you find these comments helpful and I thank you for using the OWC. Michelle Disclaimer: Remember that the OWC is not an editing service. Our comments and suggestions are not exhaustive. Our service is designed to help you recognize and correct your writing so that you can become a better writer. Except where otherwise noted, formatting suggestions follow the latest (7th) edition of the APA Publication Manual. Comment by Michelle P: In the header of all pages, flush left, is the running head, an abbreviated form of your paper’s title in ALL CAPS and limited to 50 characters. Do not include the label “Running head” to identify the running head on any page. The running head should be placed on the first line of the header, on the same line as the page number. See the OWC APA Format Quick Guide and APA 2.8 on p. 37 of the APA 7 manual for more help. Comment by Michelle P: Remove the extra blank line in you header, as it causes your top margin to exceed the 1" APA requirement. For help, see the APA 7 sample paper. Comment by Michelle P: The page number is flush right in the header of your document. These should be in normal black font. See APA 2.8 on p. 37 of the APA manual and the OWC APA Format Quick Guide for more help.

SWOT Analysis Canada Comment by Michelle P: APA title page elements for the professional version (used by graduate and doctoral students) are to be centered and double-spaced in the upper half of the title page. They should include the paper’s title (in bold), the author’s name a blank double-spaced line below the title, and the degree program and the institution affiliation, separated by a comma, below the author’s name. They should be black color. See APA 2.3 on p. 28 of the APA 7 manual and the OWC APA 7 Format Quick Guide for more help. Comment by Michelle P: A preposition is needed here. A preposition shows relationships among other words in the sentence, such as direction, place, time, cause, manner, and amount. For example, in the sentence “Martha went to the store,” to is a preposition showing direction. In the sentence, “Joey came by bus,” by is a preposition showing the manner in which he came. Check out the writing resources on the OWC website.

Wed,10/10/2021 Comment by Michelle P: See the APA 7 sample paper and APA 2.7 on p. 35 of the APA 7 manual for help in constructing the author note as this section is required for all professional papers. The first three lines should be treated as separate paragraphs and be indented. Be sure to hyperlink your email address.

Comment by Michelle P: APA 7 makes use of double spacing throughout the document with no blank lines inserted between sections or level 1 headings and sections. Be sure to check your program’s settings, as additional “points” are not to be included between paragraphs. See the APA 7 sample paper for more information. Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout.

Abstract Comment by Michelle P: The abstract should be on a page of its own, with the title “Abstract” boldface and centered at the top of the page at the one-inch margin. Double space after. Use the same font as used throughout the paper. Your abstract should be a single, left-justified paragraph double-spaced (not indented). Your abstract should be a concise summary of the key points of your paper. Your abstract should be no more than 250 words (APA 2.9; 3.3). For more information on writing an abstract, see the APA 7 sample paper, APA 2.9 on p. 37, and APA 3.3 on p. 70 of the APA 7 manual. Comment by Michelle P: APA 7 makes use of double spacing throughout the document with no blank lines inserted between sections or level 1 headings and sections. Be sure to check your program’s settings, as additional “points” are not to be included between paragraphs. See the APA 7 sample paper for more information. Apply throughout.

In the Western Hemisphere, Canada is a worldwide power. Canada is a country in North America that stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific and into the Arctic. Canada has a diversified population, beautifully wooded landscapes, and plenty of oil reserves. On average, affluent countries' economies will grow in 2021. It may expand sufficiently to make up for 2020's losses after the worst dip since 1945. (a 5% GDP drop) This will help Canada's economy. Progressing government investment plans will help the Canadian economy grow (Pichkov, O., 2016). For a long time, income inequality in Canada was far greater than the OECD average. As a result, total incomes in Canada have remained stable over the last 30 years. Comment by Michelle P: Consider revising to complete this phrase. Into the Arctic what? Clarity is a hallmark of professional writing that you can learn more about at APA 4.4 on p. 110 of the APA 7 manual. Comment by Michelle P: Every sentence that contains information that is not ENTIRELY your own words or thoughts needs to contain the citation for the source from which it came. Even if this means citing almost every sentence of a paragraph, it must be done. However, APA allows citation of the first instance in a single paragraph without repeating as long as citation as long as the source is apparent and remains the same. See chapter 8 of the APA 7 manual and the OWC APA Format Quick Guide for more help. Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout. Comment by Michelle P: Rather than include pertinent information is parentheses, which lends a casual tone to your writing, consider revising to treat this phrase as nonrestrictive by inserting it into the body of the sentence, set off by commas. Commas are used to separate a non-restrictive element. A nonrestrictive element - one that is not essential to the basic meaning of the sentence - could be removed and the sentence would still make sense. Use commas to set off any nonrestrictive parts of a sentence. For example, instead of “James Bill’s father went into the garage,” the correct alternative would be “James, Bill’s father, went into the garage.” The reader does not need to know that James is Bill’s father to know the basic meaning of the sentence: James went into the garage. There is an excellent presentation on comma usage on the OWC’s website: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Commas.pdf Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout. Comment by Michelle P: Acronyms are a type of abbreviation and should follow the same guidelines (APA 6.24-25). Spell out what the initials stand for upon first use, followed by the acronym in parentheses. You should then use the acronym by itself in future instances. For example, “International Business Machines (IBM).” See APA 6.8 on p. 159 of the APA 7 manual and the writing resources on the OWC website. Comment by Michelle P: Wrong word errors can involve mixing up words that sound alike, using a word with the wrong shade of meaning, or using a word with a completely wrong meaning. Many wrong-word errors are due to the improper use of homonyms - words that are pronounced alike but spelled differently, such as their and there. For example, “Paradise Lost contains many illusions to classical mythology.” Illusion means "false ideas or appearances," and allusion means "references." Instead use, “Paradise Lost contains many allusions to classical mythology.” For example, “Working at a computer all day often means being sedate for long periods of time.” Sedate means "composed, dignified," and sedentary means "requiring much sitting." Instead use, “Working at a computer all day often means being sedentary for long periods of time.” For more information, see this helpful resource on commonly misused words from the writing center: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Commonly-Misused-Words.pdf Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout. Comment by Michelle P: Initials are not used in the parenthetical citation. APA in-text references should include the author's last name and the year of publication, separated by a comma. See APA 8.10 on p. 261 of the APA 7 manual and the OWC APA Format Quick Guide for more help. For example: Charles Hullmandel experimented with lithographic techniques throughout the early nineteenth century, patenting the lithotint process in 1840 (Twyman, 1970). According to Jones (1998), APA style is a difficult citation format for first-time learners. Comment by Michelle P: This sentence does not fit with the other information presented in this paragraph. A paragraph is a collection of related sentences dealing with a single topic. Learning to write strong paragraphs will help you as a writer stay on track during your drafting and revision stages. Strong paragraphing also greatly assists your readers in following a piece of writing. You can have fantastic ideas, but if those ideas aren't presented in an organized fashion, you will lose your readers (and fail to achieve your goals in writing). There is an excellent presentation on paragraph construction on the OWC website at: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Paragraph_Construction.pdf

Canadian culture is influenced by British, French, and American principles, from cinema and writing to gastronomy and sports. Other people's cultures have influenced the blend. In 1971, 20 years after the Massey Report was published, Canada made multiculturalism a national policy. It now helps ethnic groups and individuals fully engage in Canadian society.

In addition to the U.S. and EU, Canada's foreign policy needs to build alliances with countries in the global South. The growth of the global South as a major and maybe the most powerful engine of world economic development has shifted Canada's perspective. Several countries in the South have diverse cultures and strong militaries. During Europe's feudal period, nations like India and China dominated the global economic and military landscape (Clarkson, S., 2002). Comment by Michelle P: The abbreviation for European Union, like that of the United States, uses periods. For help, see APA 6.2 on p. 154 of the APA 7 manual. Comment by Michelle P: Commas are used to separate a non-restrictive element. There is an excellent presentation on comma usage on the OWC’s website: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Commas.pdf Comment by Michelle P: Be sure to use graduate level vocabulary in your writing. https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/word-choice/ Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout. Comment by Michelle P: Consider revising, as this sentence does not flow with the other information presented in this paragraph. For help constructing clear and concise paragraphs, see https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Paragraph_Construction.pdf

It's important to remember that Canada's legislative system is ruled by law. The Constitution Act of 1867 established a single Parliament with three chambers: Crown, Senate, and House of Commons. This is the Canadian written constitution. Because Canada is a federal state, legislation is shared between Ottawa and the ten provinces and three territories. Canada's constitutional monarchy has a solid royal system. Presidents run the judiciary, and prime ministers run the executive. In political terms, the USA is a republic. The President is the nation's chief executive and head of state (Act, C. E. A., 2012). Comment by Michelle P: A contraction is the shortening of a word, syllable, or word group by omission of a sound or letter. Contractions are generally to be avoided in academic writing, as they tend to give the writing an informal tone. For example, replace didn’t with did not, can’t with cannot, and it’s with it is. Refer to https://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2015/12/contractions-in-formal-writing-whats-allowed-whats-not.html and APA 4.8 on p. 116 of the APA 7 manual for further guidance. Comment by Michelle P: This is not the Canadian Constitution. This is your paper. As such, one or more words are missing from this phrase that are necessary for this sentence to be clear and complete. For help, see https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Sentence_Construction.pdf Comment by Michelle P: True, but how does this information relate to your topic of Canada? You are missing transitional words and phrases that link unlike ideas together to show how they are related to each other. Good transitions can connect sentences and paragraphs and turn disconnected writing into a unified whole. Instead of treating sentences and paragraphs as separate ideas, transitions can help readers understand how paragraphs work together, reference one another, and build to a larger point. The key to producing good transitions is highlighting connections between corresponding sentences and paragraphs. By referencing in one paragraph the relevant material from previous paragraphs, writers can develop important points for their readers. See our helpful resource at: https://www.liberty.edu/media/1171/Transitions_and_Phrases.doc Comment by Michelle P: See the APA 7 sample paper and APA 2.1 on p. 37 of the APA 7 manual for help in constructing the keywords section for your abstract. This section is required for all professional papers but may not be required for this specific assignment. Refer to the instructions and grading rubric for clarification.

Introduction Comment by Michelle P: Remove the tab stops from this line so you level 1 heading is properly aligned on the page. For help, see the APA 7 sample paper. Apply throughout.

Canada is the largest country in the Western Hemisphere and a global force. Canada is a North American country that runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean in the West and into the Arctic Ocean. It has a robust economy, a well-run government, and a high standard of living for its population. Comment by Michelle P: Consider revising to include an adjective to describe in what area Canada is a global force. Clarity is a hallmark of professional writing about which you can learn more at APA 4.4 on p. 110 of the APA 7 manual. Apply throughout. Comment by Michelle P: This phrase is not necessary because the other oceans do not include cardinal directions. Parallel structure means using the same pattern of words to show that two or more ideas have the same level of importance. This can happen at the word, phrase, or clause level. The usual way to join parallel structures is with the use of coordinating conjunctions such as and, but, or, nor, for, and yet. There is an excellent worksheet on sentence construction here: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Sentence_Construction.pdf

Canada has a diversified population, beautifully wooded landscapes, and plenty of oil reserves. Small businesses, startups, and solopreneurs are encouraged by the Canadian government. Over the last ten years, the country has experienced exporting specialty products to boost its economy. On the other hand, the wavering Canadian currency is causing alarm among existing businesses, the oil industry, and Canada's economic stability. Comment by Michelle P: Directly copying another’s work without giving proper credit is plagiarism. Summarizing or paraphrasing another’s ideas without acknowledgement is also plagiarism. Liberty’s policy on plagiarism is found in the Liberty Way, Liberty’s Honor Code, which can be found here: https://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=1417 There is also a helpful presentation on plagiarism on the OWC website at: http://www.liberty.edu/media/1171/Writing_With_Integrity.pdf

Canada has a thriving free-market economy, with enterprises ranging from small family-run businesses to massive multinational giants. Exporting agricultural staples like grain and natural resources products like minerals, oil, and natural gas has historically been critical to Canada's economic growth. Comment by Michelle P: Commas are not used to separate a restrictive element. A restrictive element is essential to the basic meaning of the sentence. It is not set off from the rest of the sentence with commas. For example, instead of “People, who wanted to preserve wilderness areas, opposed the plan to privatize national parks,” the correct alternative would be “People who wanted to preserve wilderness areas opposed the plan to privatize national parks.” There is an excellent presentation on comma usage on the OWC’s website: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Commas.pdf Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout.

SWOT Analysis Comment by Michelle P: Your essay would benefit from a brief paragraph explaining what a SWOT analysis is, from where it originated, and the benefits of using one.

S trengths Comment by Michelle P: Unless required by the assignment's instructions, consider presenting this information in paragraph form rather than as a bulleted list. A single paragraph requires three or more sentences, which is very doable with the amount of information included in each bullet point below. Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout.

· The federal government of Canada fosters the formation of new businesses. Because of the numerous tax discounts and tax exemptions available, Canadian entrepreneurs are more confident (saying less fear of failure) in launching small businesses or identifying as "self-employed."

· The development of Canadian diamonds and the ice wine industry has resulted in increased profit for Canada as a result of exporting to niche markets. Ice wine accounted for 29% of the country's overall exports in 2014. And the numbers are just going to get worse. Comment by Michelle P: The subject and verb must agree in number (i.e., singular or plural). A plural subject requires a plural verb. For example, instead of “Betty and I is going to the mall,” the correct alternative would be “Betty and I are going to the mall.” See this presentation for more information: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Subject-Verb_Agreement.pdf Comment by Michelle P: This is a rather dated statistic. Consider revising to include more current data. Comment by Michelle P: How is 29% of total exports for one product a bad thing that can get worse? This statement is in need of clarification and explanation. For help, see https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Paragraph_Construction.pdf Comment by Michelle P: Every sentence requires a subject and a predicate. The subject is the noun (person, place, or thing) performing the action or upon whom the action is performed. Consider the following: “As reported by Smith, declared that the tests were invalid.” This is a fragment; it has no subject. “Smith” is apparently the intended subject, but because it is part of a prepositional phrase, it cannot be a subject. The correct alternative would be “Smith declared that the tests were invalid,” or “As reported by Smith, the test was invalid.” There is an excellent presentation on sentence fragments on the OWC website at: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Sentence-Fragments.pdf Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout.

· As a result of its closeness, Canada has reaped the benefits of a substantial trade surplus with the United States. Every year, around three-quarters of all Canadian commodities, are exported.

Weaknesses

· Canada has various advantages due to its closeness to the United States, yet its reliance on the United States can be a drawback. Over 74 percent of Canadian exports are sent to the U.S. The recession in the United States harmed Canadian exports. As a result, if the U.S. stock market falls, Canada's stock market may suffer.

· The changing Canadian dollar has created a divide as it rises and falls (mainly down). Unfortunately, as the value of the dollar lowers, tens of thousands of jobs have been lost.

Opportunities

Given the importance of exporting to the Canadian economy, exporting to rising nations presents substantial prospects for Canadian enterprises. Although the United States remained Canada's top ice wine export market in 2007, Asia's demand has grown, and Canada is moving up to satisfy it. The Canada-Indonesia Business Council seeks medical services, technology, and pharmaceuticals from Canada. Comment by Michelle P: Paragraphs are to be left justified, double-spaced with no extra line spacing between paragraphs, and indented 0.5”. Using MS Word’s “Home” “Paragraph” makes formatting easier. Change the spacing before and after to “0.” See the OWC APA Format Quick Guide, APA 2.21 on p. 44, and 2.24 on p. 45 of the APA 7 manual. Comment by Michelle P: Apply throughout. Comment by Michelle P: Once an abbreviation or acronym is introduced, it should be used exclusively throughout the document. For help, see the APA 7 sample paper.

Threats

· The number of establishments is being reduced. The weak Canadian dollar has put the prospects of many enterprises in peril (particularly Canadian businesses). Dollarama, for example, has promised to hike its pricing in the coming years since the dollar is too low to maintain present costs. Several other retailers have closed their doors due to Canada's poor economic growth, including Future Shop, Target, and, most recently, Aeropostale.

· The oil sector is tied to the dollar (sometimes known as the loonie). Despite Canada's vast oil reserves, rising oil prices are likely to boost the Canadian dollars’ worth. Oil prices, on the other hand, have plummeted in recent weeks, weakening the currency. Such a close relationship could be the difference between the Canadian economy's success and failure. Comment by Michelle P: The inclusion of slang terminology that is not germane to your argument should be avoided in professional writing. For help, see : https://twp.duke.edu/sites/twp.duke.edu/files/file-attachments/academic-style-guide.original.pdf

Strengths (S) Comment by Michelle P: In general, every figure and table in your paper should have a number and a title placed above it. Both may also include a note below. See the OWC APA Format Quick Guide, APA 7.9 on p. 199, and APA 7.23 on p. 226 of the APA 7 manual for more help.

Weaknesses (W)

· Entrepreneurial support

· Trade plus with America

· Niche market growth

· Fluctuating Canadian dollar

· High dependency on the U. S Comment by Michelle P: This abbreviation uses no space and two periods. See APA 6.2 on p. 154 of the APA 7 manual.

Opportunities (O) Comment by Michelle P: If some table headings are capitalized, all of them should be capitalized for consistency.

Threats (T)

· Exporting to emerging international markets

· Dropping oil prices negatively affecting Canadian dollar

· Closing of stores due to low Canadian dollar

Economic situation Comment by Michelle P: Level 1 headings are centered, boldface, in title case (all major words capitalized). See the OWC APA Format Quick Guide and APA 2.27 on p. 47 of the APA manual for more help.

The outlook for the Canadian economy in 2021 is similar to that of other affluent countries. There is a fair possibility that it will expand enough to compensate for the losses suffered in 2020 following the worst slump since 1945. (a reduction of 5.5 percent of GDP). Exports are likely to improve, boosting Canada's economy. Government investment plans that are progressing will aid in the expansion of the Canadian economy (Pichkov, O., 2016). For an extended period, income disparities in Canada were much more significant than the OECD average. As a result, total earnings in Canada have stayed relatively steady over the past 30 years throughout the income spectrum. This is notably true for the middle-and-upper-income deciles, where income has mainly stayed flat over time. Comment by Michelle P: A space should be inserted prior to "and" and the and is not followed by a hyphen. For help, see www.grammarbook.com and APA 6.12 on p. 162 of the APA 7 manual for more information

In 2011, the poorest 20% of Canadians received 4.1 percent of the country's total income, compared to 47.2 percent for the wealthiest 20%. With these assumptions, it follows that in Adanac, the two extremes would receive a significantly higher share of national revenue than they do in Canada (Pichkov, O., 2016). The significant rise in actual earnings for the lowest 90% of Canadians after 1940 began with a situation in which Comment by Michelle P: Paragraphs are to be left justified, double-spaced with no extra line spacing between paragraphs, and indented 0.5”. Using MS Word’s “Home” “Paragraph” makes formatting easier. Change the spacing before and after to “0.” See the OWC APA Format Quick Guide, APA 2.21 on p. 44, and 2.24 on p. 45 of the APA 7 manual. Comment by Michelle P: Do not mix the word and symbol forms of "percent" in a sentence. Choose one and use it consistently. Comment by Michelle P: A bulleted list should be introduced by a colon. For help, see www.grammarbook.com.

· Rural outmigration would significantly improve average salaries and productivity because of the vast percentage of agricultural employees before World War II. Comment by Michelle P: Because the introduction to this list is an introductory clause, this letter should be lower case because it is completing the sentence begun above. For help, see www.grammarbook.com. Comment by Michelle P: Bulleted lists should be indented 0.5" from the left margin. For help, see the APA 7 sample paper.

· Because human capital investment in secondary and post-secondary education was initially limited, unemployment during the 1930s was quickly absorbed into wartime production. Comment by Michelle P: Because the introduction to this list in an introductory clause, this statement should complete the sentence begun above. For help with the grammar involved with lists, see www.grammarbook.com. Apply throughout.

· Because there was a low number of women working at first, growing female employment might significantly impact household income. Because of a "threat effect" from the "hard left" option in social policy politics, political elites agreed to progressive taxes and extended transfer programs to recycle high incomes. Comment by Michelle P: The use of direct quotes requires a parenthetical citation that also includes the page of the source from which the words were taken. For help, see the APA 7 sample paper. Apply throughout.

· Even if the mobilization and regulations of wartime were "once-only" events, structural changes in economic growth, such as urbanization, increasing female labor force participation, and extended secondary and post-secondary education, had a considerable impact on family income. This had a long-term effect, increasing the postwar average income growth rate. Because these structural changes were completed by 1980, the poorest quintiles in Canada and the United States have had more nominal income growth than in previous decades.

Three-quarters of Canada's employment are employed in the service sector. Other important industries include transportation, lumber, paper goods, minerals, natural gas, fish products, and chemicals. Minerals like gold, nickel, aluminum, and crude oil are plentiful across the country (Pichkov, O., 2016).

Cultural and Social Situation

Canadian culture had nearly vanished after decades of "American invasion through film, radio, and periodicals," making it difficult to distinguish it from the United States, which was just across the border. According to the government's new policy, Canadian media will be obligated to promote Canadian-made cultural items in the future, such as novels, television series, and magazines. Most people agree that the approach was a success; however, it was primarily due to personal efforts rather than government initiatives. A mash-up of British, French, and American ideals influences every aspect of Canadian cultural life, from filmmaking and writing to cuisine and sports participation. Other people's different civilizations have added their tastes to the mix. For example, Yonge Street in Toronto is lined with delectable and diverse restaurants (predominantly South Asian), Vancouver's Chinese population has spawned a folk opera and puppetry tradition that rivals China's best, Italian is widely spoken in Montreal's coffeehouses, and Canada's indigenous peoples are finding a growing voice through a culture (Clarkson, S., 2002). Twenty years after the Massey Report was published, Canada established multiculturalism as an official national policy in 1971. The federal government now assists various ethnic groups and individuals to help them fully participate in Canadian society.

Legal and Geopolitical Issues

Canada's foreign policy vistas must be expanded beyond the United States and the European Union, and partnerships with countries in the global South must be formed. The emergence of the global South as a vital engine of global economic development, and probably the most powerful shortly, is the most significant shift in Canada's perspective. Several countries in the South are rich in varied cultures in addition to being major military forces. A millennium ago, when Europe was acquiring its feudal footing, nations like India and China enjoyed worldwide economic and military domination (Clarkson, S., 2002). Comment by Michelle P: As noted in the abstract, this sentence is in need of a transition so its contents are connected to the contents of this paragraph.

This new geopolitical order is gradually and unevenly taking shape around the world. It will take a long time to come to fruition. However, a resource-constrained globe driven by new communication modes and marketing-induced consumption "needs" will not aspire to emulate the features of a North addicted to consumerism and enamored with globalization (Clarkson, S., 2002). In Canada's geopolitical strategy, producers, buyers, investors, and significant potential markets for our raw materials and industrial goods will all be considered. Comment by Michelle P: Within the context of this paragraph, the structure of this sentence is so complicated that its meaning gets lost or confused. Consider simplifying. There is an excellent worksheet on sentence construction here: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Sentence_Construction.pdf Comment by Michelle P: APA 7 does not make use of second person pronouns when describing people in general. Third person is preferred over first person in most instances. Of course, your instructor’s assignment instructions and grading rubric will determine the acceptability of first person use for this assignment. See APA 4.17 on p. 110 of the APA manual.

Developing countries aspire to eradicate the scars of Western colonialism, while the West wants to see democratic and human rights growth in emerging states. Modern democratic institutions, such as those found in the West, are challenging to build in a wholly new society (Djilas, A., 1998).

Governmental Atmosphere

It's crucial to remember that the rule of law reigns supreme in Canada's parliamentary system. According to the Constitution Act of 1867, Canada would have a single Parliament of three parts: the Crown, Senate, and House of Commons. The written constitution of Canada is made up of this. It's worth emphasizing that because Canada is a federal state, establishing laws is divided between the central government and the ten provinces and three territories. Canada's royal system is robust since it is a constitutional monarchy. Presidents are in charge of the judicial branch, while prime ministers control the executive branch. The United States of America is a republic in political terms. The President is both the head of state and the chief executive of the United States (Act, C. E. A., 2012). Comment by Michelle P: One or more words are missing from this phrase that are necessary for the sentence to be complete. Consider revising and see https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Sentence_Construction.pdf Comment by Michelle P: A comma splice is a specific kind of run-on sentence which incorrectly joins two or more independent clauses using only a comma. The following is a simple example of a comma splice, along with 5 ways to correct it: • Incorrect: Rachel is very smart, she began reading when she was 3 years old. • Method 1: Use a period and a capital letter to separate the clauses into 2 sentences. Rachel is very smart. She began reading when she was 3 years old. • Method 2: Replace the comma with a semicolon. Rachel is very smart; she began reading when she was 3 years old. • Method 3: Insert a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, nor, for, yet). Rachel is very smart, and she began reading when she was 3 years old. • Method 4: Use a subordinating conjunction to reduce one of the clauses to an incomplete thought. Because Rachel is very smart, she began reading when she was 3 years old. • Method 5: Add a semicolon and a transitional word or phrase (however, moreover, on the other hand, nevertheless, etc.) before the comma. Rachel is very smart; as a result, she began reading when she was 3 years old. There is a helpful resource on comma splices on the OWC’s website: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Run-on_Sentences.pdf Comment by Michelle P: How is this information important to an analysis of the Canadian government? Consider revising to add a transition between sentences so this information can fit here. We may thank the Preamble to the Constitution Act of 1867 for our legislative system, which proclaims that Canada would have a "Constitution identical in principle to that of the United Kingdom." The parliamentary government system in Canada has the following characteristics: Comment by Michelle P: The Preamble did not create the legislation system. Consider revising to give credit for this creation where credit is due. Clarity is a hallmark of professional writing and you can learn more at APA 4.4 on p. 110 of the APA 7 manual.

· Legislation must get the approval of all three of Parliament's constituent parts (the Crown, the Senate, and the House of Commons) to become law; legislative authority is vested in "Parliament."

· They were elected to represent their voters in a single electoral district by receiving the most votes among all candidates running in that district. The vast majority of M.P.s are members of a political party and actively support it. They are each elected to represent a particular constituency. Comment by Michelle P: A pronoun - a word such as she, yourself, her, it, this, who, or which - should clearly refer to the word or words it replaces (called the antecedent) elsewhere in the sentence or in a previous sentence. If more than one word could be the antecedent or if no specific antecedent is present in the sentence, edit to make the meaning clear. For example, “Transmitting radio signals by satellite is a way of overcoming the problem of scarce airwaves and limiting how they are used.” Does “they” refer to “signals” or “airwaves”? Instead, the following should be used: “Transmitting radio signals by satellite is a way of overcoming the problem of scarce airwaves and limiting how the airwaves are used.” Consider another example: “The company prohibited smoking, which many employees resented.” To what does “which” refer? Instead, the correct alternative would be “The company prohibited smoking, a policy many employees resented.” See the OWC’s resource on pronoun-antecedent agreement: https://www.liberty.edu/casas/academic-success-center/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2019/04/Pronoun-Antecedent_Agreement.pdf.

· The Governor-General requests the party leader with the most votes in the House of Commons to form a government, and that person is named Prime Minister.

· The opposition refers to the party or parties that oppose the government (the largest of these parties is referred to as the "official" opposition)

Informally, the Crown holds executive powers, but the Prime Minister and Cabinet, who are mostly picked from the ruling party's members of Parliament, exercise these authorities. The Prime Minister and his Cabinet must answer to the House of Commons for their acts, and they must have that body's trust. In practice, confidence translates to majority support in the House. Individuals on Canada's political left and right organize their political beliefs in various ways, demonstrating that ideological struggle is asymmetric. Even when looking at the country as a whole, it's evident that there's a significant right-left divide in Canada, and those on the left and right sides of the political spectrum have very different perspectives on the world (Act, C. E. A., 2012). Comment by Michelle P: Avoid using gendered pronouns when speaking of an organization's construction. This implies that women cannot hold this position, which is gender bias. For help, see APA 5.7 on p. 137 of the APA 7 manual. Comment by Michelle P: Vague phrasing has no place in professional writing, which is expected to be clear and concise. Consider revising to explain what you mean by this vague phrase. For help, see APA 4.4 on p. 110 of the APA 7 manual.

Canada's government organizational structure Comment by Michelle P: Figure titles are written in title case in italic, unbolded font. For help, see APA 7.23 on p. 225 of the APA 7 manual. Comment by Michelle P: The citation information must be included below the figure to avoid plagiarizing someone else's diagram. See APA 7.23 on p. 225 of the APA 7 manual.

For those who appear before them and the general public to have faith in the fair treatment they will receive when a decision is reached, each judge and the judiciary as a whole must be neutral and free of all outside pressures, as well as from one another. Comment by Michelle P: This paragraph consists of only one sentence which does not fit in this portion of the essay. You moved from discussing the prime minister's cabinet to the judiciary with no transition and no supporting information. Corporations lack the models and instruments of the corporate sphere to remain confident in their understanding of geopolitical patterns, political and social change, and the accompanying risks to global economic activity. Many CEOs would shake their shoulders resignedly when faced with requests for a significant shift in corporate ideology (Roy, J., 2007).

Geopolitics and economics are inextricably linked. Economic growth has the long-term consequence of disrupting the power balance among the world's major powers, paving the way for great power competition. Economic development is influenced by geopolitical variables, as evidenced by the rise of the West and the fall of China in the early modern period.

Public-private partnerships (P3) are increasingly being used successfully in Canada to build large-scale infrastructure projects with a high level of complexity and risk. Everything from public hospitals to waste-water treatment plants to highways and bridges to public transit networks falls under this category (Roy, J., 2007). Comment by Michelle P: Consider revising this information into a list in which each item is separated by commas rather than prepositions and an article is inserted prior to the final item in the series. Action plan

Though Canada is a great country with many strengths, income inequality has been primarily involved. Better data to pinpoint the patterns in the first place would be a sensible place to start for Canada. The most recent wealth disparity figures reveal that the wealthiest 20% of families control 70% of the country's wealth, date from 2005, well before the recession. And the most valuable source of information about who is poor, who is wealthy, and what the disparity between them is – the mandatory long-form census – has been scrapped (Pichkov, O., 2016). The new national household survey is a poor stand-in for the old survey. Better and more timely data would allow for better decisions. Comment by Michelle P: Dashes should be avoided in professional writing because they lend a casual tone that should be avoided. Consider treating this phrase as a nonrestrictive phrase and punctuation it with commas. For help, see www.grammarbook.com and the Comma section of the OWC resource page.

The mixed culture of Canada should make it strong and not be one of the challenges. Indigenous peoples in Canada have long been marginalized, with drug and alcohol abuse common throughout the country's reserves. In recent years, however, many of these communities have attempted to regain their cultural identities. Stone and bone sculptures, baskets, and carvings are just a few famous First Nations art examples. Many of the best works of art and crafts have characteristics that are unique to their location. Because of the numerous First Nations festivals and festivities, this spike in social action has resulted in political triumphs. Comment by Michelle P: The conclusion of a research report is usually a very short section that introduces no new ideas. The conclusion is important because it is your last chance to convey the significance and meaning of your research to your reader by concisely summarizing your findings and generalizing their importance. It is also a place to raise questions that remain unanswered and to discuss ambiguous data. The conclusions you draw opinions, based on the evidence presented in the body of your report, but because they are opinions, you should not tell the reader what to do or what action they should take. Refer to https://writing.wiscweb.wisc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/535/2018/07/conclusions_uwmadison_writingcenter_aug2012.pdf for further guidance.

Bibliography Comment by Michelle P: APA uses a reference page, rather than a bibliography or a works cited page. References should begin on a separate page. The heading, References, should be centered and bolded; double space after. The works referenced should be left-justified, double-spaced, unnumbered, and alphabetized by the first author’s last name. Each entry should use a hanging indent, wherein lines after the first are indented. There is no extra line spacing between entries. Use normal style and a standard font. For more help, see APA 2.12 on p. 40 of the APA 7 manual. The OWC has an excellent video tutorial on reference entries here: https://watch.liberty.edu/media/t/1_1g6ou5pl

Clarkson, S. (2002). Uncle Sam and us one year later: The geopolitical consequences for Canada of September 11th. Canadian Issues, 15. Comment by Michelle P: Citations for a journal article must follow APA format. The general format is: Work Author’s Last Name, Work Author’s First Initial. (Year of Publication). Title of the article. Title of the Periodical, Volume number(Issue number), page range. DOI. For example: Harlow, H. F. (1983). Fundamentals for preparing psychology journal articles. Roy, J. (2007). Business and government in Canada (Vol. 13). University of Ottawa Press. Comment by Michelle P: Abdirihim, Thank you for using the OWC here at Liberty! I enjoyed reading your SWOT analysis on Canada. You have obviously put much time into this paper. Overall, it is a very nice paper. However, you have formatting, punctuation, and grammatical errors that detract from its effectiveness. To continue elevating your writing, consider reviewing APA 7 formatting guidelines, as well as the rules for written English grammar. Please refer to the many helpful writing resources on the OWC website at: http://www.liberty.edu/academics/graduate/writing/index.cfm?PID=12268 Moving forward I suggest working on constructing paragraphs comprised of clear, complete, and concise sentences that use words that accurately convey your intended meaning. You have started a good paper that, with a little fine tuning, will be an excellent paper. I did not mark every instance of every error. Remember to look for other similar errors when you see “apply throughout.” If you have any specific questions that I did not address here, feel free to email the OWC or schedule a Live chat or Skype request. You will find many helpful writing aids here. Also, please be sure to complete the Student Satisfaction Survey located at the bottom of your completed request. I hope these comments help! As recorded in Numbers 6:24-26, I pray the Lord blesses you, keeps you, is gracious to you, and gives your peace in all you do in your service to Him! Thanks for using the OWC, Michelle
