“Romance for Monster, and the Monk is a Realistic approach”
Frankenstein made a monster through the detailed investigation and find the secret of life. I must present here how the romantic writers are fully connected with the nature and the human feelings. Which Mary Shelley has shown in this story, how monster is affiliated with his owner and he have killed every one who has made the connections with Frankenstein. Romance is also connected with the life of urban and rural. In the novel Frankenstein Shelly has expressed the true love from one side. It is started the research of Frankenstein of secrets of life, when he made a monster and now he was unable to stop that monster who is ruining the lives of his loved ones. (Editors.)
Here I have to say that monster is a Hero, and if I say that he is romantic hero then it is not wrong, let me explain the romantic movement from the start, as it is started in the 1808, when the novels and story’s fantasize about Romance, and exaggerate the emotions and feelings to the high level, romanticism some time make you a rebel, and one can look for the freedom, that is the point when you can feel the power of Romance at its peak, in the early age of the romantic movement, the writers and the poets, use the feelings and emotions of one that can explained and addressed with great and strong scenes, and dialogues.
Here in this novel, the Frankenstein created the monster and that monster was not accepted by the society that is why he became rebel, and then that monster killed people. Some time you have to find the ways to fit in the society, Shelly wants to show the readers that if the society rejects anyone, then it will be hard for someone like that monster to stay and follow the society, then the issues and problems lies beyond the limits. One cannot blame the monster for what he has done. Because he was living on the edge of society, with nothing in his hands.
The monster here tries to fit in the society but failed to do so, because he was not fully groomed and not able to follow the rules of the society, some of the reasons about his actions against the society laws defend the monster in some ways. That if you feel alone, and you are not accepted by someone you need a partner, otherwise things are meant in a totally different scenario. The writer shows the sympathy towards the monster because of his looks and that he is not social at all, he cannot be a part of the society. Then the monster had a time to show the society that what is capable of, and then no one can have made a contact with him, unless monster wanted. (Coghill)
In this novel, one can clearly see the Frankenstein is a true romantic person. "Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through and pour a torrent of life into our dark world. A new species would bless me as its creator and source”. Victor is always looking to the limits beyond the life and to a God, it is the time when he finds the most unwanted thing and he created it. For me here, the Romance is between Life and Death, the Victor wants some bigger in his life, and what he created was out of his limits and his control.
I must say that the critic about victor of becoming God is a critic in itself, but it is the way Victor wants it. While creating the image Shelly, has shown some of the most beautiful and romantic images in the novel, as explaining that Frankenstein destroyed his own future, by creating the future of someone else. It is one of the beautiful Romantic Novel as it is not seen by the first look or reading for the first time. (2741)
As I have mentioned my thesis statement above, I am moving towards Chekov story, in which he has shown some supernatural powers and nature, and psychology as well. After the era of 1850, the movement started against the Romanticism, the writers have switched their gears and move to Realism. It is not easy for one, to say that total focus would be changed suddenly but it took time. people at that time argued that why some one exaggerate the feelings and emotions and portray them in a fantasy world. Then slowly the moods shifted and swing of the pendulum moves toward Realism. Chekov has shown in his story some of the supernatural powers. That he sees the monk in the garden talking to him and telling him about different things.
Let us make the analysis from start, as in the story the writer portrays the beautiful garden, and the smoke around it make it more beautiful. This part has made the scenes more beautiful and interesting, we can call it a decorative portion. The writer has shown a mysterious character called a monk, which itself a fairy-tale. The story has both usual and unusual things in it. As the monk is a ghost from 1000 years old as well, the writer creates a magical influence in the story. We can see that in the story it can be seen the realism magic of today’s world.
In this story the characters which were described all have the double personalities. Here in this story the writer focuses on all characters, about their relationship towards the natural society and its levels. Explaining this story in more depth, let us go when the author describes the monk which can be seen in the garden by the Kovrin, and there he meets him with all the feelings of supernatural. We can see that in this story we find the realistic approach by all the characters, having to face the problem in depth. Pesotsky wants her daughter to get married with Kovrin, but on the other side he was also has a fear about the illness of Kovrin. (Davison)
Looking on the Kovrin’s mental illness we can say that he is mentally an ill person, but what he describes about monk is totally a supernatural thing. A monk is walking in the garden and talking to Kovrin and telling him that God has selected you, you are the genius and you are the one who is selected at last. The realism shown in this part of the story which affects Tania about his wedding. When the wedding was done, the next morning when Tania awakes she find that Kovrin was talking to a chair.
There she accepts the reality that her husband is ill, she needs a doctor who can take care of her husband. But Kovrin was treated rudely and when she saw her husband she came to know that there is something wrong. I can say that Realistic approach can be seen very positively with all the characters, but on the other side the approach of the characters was doubtful. They have their double face characters, and the author is eagerly wanted to show them too.
In this story we can find that a person who is mentally retarded thinks that he is a genius, when Kovrin died the monk gave him a light, and Kovrin was satisfied about his life that he was chosen by the God and he served the mankind. We can see the bright side of the story, which gives the joy of life to characters. This story describes the communication of Kovrin is illusion, clearly deceptive. When Kovrin meets with the monk he enters in the dream and imaginary world. Slowly the things which were unreal replaces towards the reality desire for himself earlier. Now there is nothing available for him. (Melnyk)
This story seems to give us the view of total madness, it looks like the madness to the society from inspiration and immensity. We ca see in our society these days, that a term we often used for those people who get unusual level of education, and we call them mentally ill people. Because we think that the study has made them mad. Here in this story I can say that it is the good example of our society, and also the realism is shown here, when we see Kovrin appointed as a professor, but never deliver a single lecture, because he was mentally ill. This story portraits the realistic approach of the society as well. (Elliot)
“The more intellectually and morally a man is developed, the more independent he is, the more pleasure he finds in his life.”
The expression tremendously speaks to the primary saint of the story, the course of his life and advancement. To start with we see him at the pinnacle of his advancement: he is splendid, skilled and well known individual. Furthermore, he is glad somehow and brimming with vitality and want to live. Be that as it may, at that point he winds up plainly subject to the gatherings with the priest, he leaves his inquires about, turns out to be more apprehensive and furious at his life.
Chekhov indicates how Kovrin's frenzy triumphs completely. It even obliterates the last remnant of reason in his life—Yegor's prized plantation—where "the trees were orchestrated like chess pieces, in straight and consistent columns like positions of troopers." The Black Monk in this manner presents the subject of the destroyed plantation that Chekhov would later use in his play The Cherry Orchard. (Melnyk)
