Balanced Scorecard The Balanced Scoreboard can be better be described as a strategy performance

management tool which is a semi-standard structured report, that is supported by design methods

and also automation tools that can be able to be used by the various managers in various

organizations so as to be able to keep track of the execution of activities by the staff within their

control and also to be able to monitor the consequences arising from these actions (Haes &

Grembergen, 2008).

The Balanced Scoreboard can also be used by the various individuals so as to be able to keep track

of their personal performance. Various individuals can be able to use this strategy for them to

enable them know on how they are carrying out their activities and also to know whether they are

making any improvements in the various organizations that they are carrying out the various

the strategy but also other individuals who would want to keep close track of their performance.

It has various characteristics, some of them include the following:

· It majorly focuses on the strategic agenda of the specific organization that is concerned (Haes &

Grembergen, 2008).

· The selection of a small number of data items to monitor.

· A mix of financial and non-financial data items.

1 COBIT CONTROL OBJECTIVES FOR INFORMATION AND RELATED

TECHNOLOGIES IS A GOOD PRACTICE FRAMEWORK THAT HAS BEEN ABLE TO

BE CREATED BY INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION ISACA FOR

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT AND IT GOVERNANCE (HAES &

GREMBERGEN, 2008). THE MAIN THING THAT THE COBIT DOES IS THAT IT

PROVIDES AN IMPLEMENTABLE SET OF CONTROLS OVER INFORMATION

TECHNOLOGY AND ORGANIZES THEM AROUND A LOGICAL FRAMEWORK OF IT

RELATED PROCESSES AND ENABLERS.

There has always been a comparison that has been done concerning the Balanced Scorecard and the

COBIT. They always tend to vary in various ways that makes them most of the time not to be the

same though in some occasions they tend to have a similar character. 2 SOME OF THE WAYS

INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

· COBIT tends to get directly get involved with IT than the Balanced Scorecard. In the Balanced

Scorecard, it tends to get more to the various managers as it gives them the various ideas that they

can be able to use for them to be able to keep tracks of the various activities that are being carried

out by the staff (Ahuja, 2009). On the other hand, the COBIT get to be involved with the IT as it

makes the various technologies that are being used in the various organizations are able to be used

effectively as the organization expects to (Haes & Grembergen, 2008).

· They also tend to have a common objective to which they are able to make the various

organizations to be satisfied after they have been able to implement them effectively. These two

always makes various organizations to always reach the various goals that they have been able to set

as the Balanced Scorecard will be able to make the managers to best know how their employees

work while the COBIT assist the organization with the IT to complete the various activities that are

carried out (Haes & Grembergen, 2008).

· COBIT involves a large number of people as compared to Balanced Scorecard. The COBIT always

tends to largely involve the various customers at large as it makes the various customers to know

more about the IT that has been used in the organization, this makes them to be able to have a close

relationship with the various customers thus making the organization to be able to earn more profit

(Ahuja, 2009). On the other hand, the Balanced Scorecard tends to directly involve the managers

and the various staff that work within an organization.
