Benefits of Cross-Cultural Awareness
Deep understanding of other people’s cultural background and needs is an integral part of modern-day life you could expand on why it is integral to modern day life. It is intuitive for the most part, but could help those who do not understand culture. These cultural background and needs vary from interracial relationships, intercountry and even interpersonal relationships. When one accomplishes these understandings, then we say that one is exercising the aspect of cross-cultural awareness this sentence could go after the Irish example to show what execising cross cultural awareness did for the Irish engineer. Baltes, Hernandez and Collins(pg.2)you can also MLA Cite this source by just direct quoting it “” and then putting (Baltes et al. + the date) define cross-cultural awareness as that aspect of human understanding which enables a person to know and appreciate some of the cultural values, feelings, traditional setup and needs of other people from a different cultural background if this is a direct quote and you haven’t put it in quotations, it could be considered plagiarizing. For example, an Irish engineer stationed at Calcutta, a India is likely to meet various cultural differences from the local people he will be working with. Moreover, he stands to be faced with numerous Hindu traditions and customs, such as meals, festivals, and greetings. For this Irish engineer to augur well with the locals and achieve success within his work, he should be ready to understand the Indian traditions, values and customs. He should learn to appreciate that the meal offered will likely to be too spicy or even there is a likelihood that he will be restricted from consuming beef while within the confines of Indian neighborhood or locality. I think you could expand on this more by using more pertinent examples like the difference in working culture in India and how collectivist it is. So, what are some of the advantages of cross-cultural awareness ? This discussion seeks to answer this question by exploring some of the benefits likely to be accrued when we are exercise awareness of other people’s cultures.
Cross-cultural awareness has numerous benefits to an individual who desires to know more about other people’s culture I think you should expand on the benefits it has on individuals who also aren’t actively desiring to know more about other cultures. Some of the benefits likely accrued include people getting to learn more about themselves, instilling a sense of confidence on individuals, breaking down some of the barriers and stereotypes that one may have about other communities, and building trust among people from different cultural backgrounds. I would add a sentence here about the pertinence of these benefits to society. Something like “These benefits all lead to X”. This X could be your main overarching theme like “These benefits lead to increased cohesion on teams”.
Cross-cultural awareness is important in making people learn more about themselves. Bender, Negi and Fowler (pg.35) outlines that when one is exposed to elements of other cultures, he or she tends to have numerous facts that can help unlock some of the questions one may have about his or her cultural background I am a bit confused. Does exposing one to culture immediately give facts or is it something learned through repeated exposure?. For example, understanding why the Hispanics saying “the Hispanics” instead of “the Hispanic culture/community” might trigger an emotional response as it can be seen as offensive. I don’t like people referring to Indians as The Indians. tend to put more emphasis on the importance of family as an institution can help an individual to understand why his or her family is not the same as their neighbors. Secondly, through having facts and information about numerous occurrences, one can be able to see and understand things happening in other parts of the world. Cross-cultural awareness has made many people have an open mind by enabling them to learn more about themselves This sentence was confusing. Does being open minded in this context enable self-learning or learning about others from other cultures?.
Cross-cultural awareness has been pivotal in instilling confidence in people. Muzumdar et al. (pg.1) asserts that cultural confidence is an occurrence where individuals get to be more assertive when it comes to dealing with people of other cultural backgrounds you could expand on why being assertive instills confidence. This aspect occurs when an individual learns much about other cultures and is in a position not to feel inferior when dealing or interacting with people from other cultural backgrounds you could expand on how learning makes people feel less inferior. Is it because others become more understanding or because people care less after learning?. For example, an African American student in an all-white school will not be deprived of his confidence when dealing with these other students because he or she is aware of what the other culture entails I think you could move this sentence up and then explain how learning about other cultures made the student not feel deprived of confidence . Cultural confidence in many people has been spearheaded by knowledge of other people’s cultures.
Cross-cultural awareness has led to the breakdown of cultural barriers and stereotypes that people may have on other cultures A source here may add to your credibility. If not, you should maybe expand on how cross-cultural awareness has led to breakdowns instead of just stating it. Across many communities, there are always stereotypes and cultural barriers that have derailed developments in these societies because people are not aware of the needs and values of other people’s cultures. I think a historical example here of a specific culture would help the flow of ideas and develop the idea further. Cultural barriers such as opposition to intermarriages can be done away with when different races learn to understand others and see each other as equal Expand on this. How does a deep-rooted barrier get eradicated by learning? What kinds of learning?. Through the creation of cross-cultural awareness, we stand to remove some of the stereotypes that have been driven by many communities regarding the inferiority of other communities and races. Cross-cultural awareness can be a great tool for removing cultural barriers within many societies.
Deep understanding of other people’s cultural background and needs is an integral part of modern-day life I think a statement here about how globalized the world is or how often we interact with others from different baackgroounds would help show why understanding culture is an integral part of modern-day life. This understanding is majorly achieved through having cross-cultural awareness that gives individuals the insight to understand what other community values and needs I think expanding here about how one achieves cross-cultural awareness would help conclude the paper. Through this awareness we as a global community stands to gain benefits such as the breakdown of cultural barriers and stereotypes, having people who are confident about themselves culturally and having individuals who have facts and understanding of other people’s cultures I think I would place this sentence earlier in the paragraph as it just restates your points You could swap it with the sentence above and change the sentence above to make it more about what cross-cultural awareness and why it brings the previously stated benefits.
