EDF 2085: Virtual Alternative to School Based Hours Assignment

As part of the Major Learning Outcomes of this course, students are expected to complete the following:

5d. engaging in and evaluating field experience

a. identifying classroom strategies and practices that support multicultural teaching and learning.

b. evaluating currently available instructional and support materials.

Due to the closure of K-12 schools’ closure to minimize the impact of COVID-19, you will view and listen to a series of multimedia clips based on the content of each module.

You can fully access all materials here:

https://edge.sagepub.com/howe3e/student-resources-0/chapter-1/video-and-multimedia

Throughout the semester, you will watch the video and multimedia content for each chapter. Then, you will choose ONE video to summarize and respond to for each chapter.

The estimated time for this assignment equates to 15 School Based Hours and will meet the requirement for this course.

As a guideline, your summary and response should be about 2-3 sentences each. I included a sample as well.

Please scroll down for a suggested template to follow. I highly recommend working on this assignment throughout the course. That way, the videos align with the weekly content and enhance what you are reading/viewing/discussing.

IMPORTANT: You will submit this assignment to a dropbox towards the end of this course. You must complete this assignment with at least 70% mastery to successfully pass this course. Failure to submit this assignment will result in a non-passing final grade. This assignment is worth 42 points (3 pts. for each chapter).

Diversity and Thriving Schools

Schools are more segregated than they have ever been. Achievement Gap vs. a Resource Gap. Teachers need the proper resources in order to be successful.

I learned that more needs to be done for schools as it relates to teaching and learning with diverse populations. A proactive approach needs to be taken rather than a reactive approach to better serve the needs of all students.
