Case Assignment

Select an action research or evaluation research article from a peer-reviewed journal. (Hint: Work efficiently, locate articles that are relevant to a potential topic for your TAD.) In a 3- to 5-page paper, provide a summary and evaluation of the procedures addressing the following:

· Does the research focus on a real problem of practice?

· Is the researcher a practitioner and/or collaborates with stakeholders?

· Does the research process include careful reflection on the problem?

· Are multiple sources of information utilized?

· Is a good action plan developed?

· Does the study result in meaningful actions to address the problem practice? Explain your reasoning.

· How does this article add to your knowledge about the topic, research problem, or research process you are exploring for the TAD?

Assignment-driven criteria: Demonstrates mastery covering all key elements of the assignment in a substantive way.

Scholarly writing: Demonstrates mastery and proficiency in scholarly written communication to an appropriately specialized audience.

Quality of references and organization: Demonstrates mastery using relevant and quality sources and uses appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to support ideas, convey understanding of the topic, and shape the work.

Citing sources: Demonstrates mastery using in-text citations or sources and properly uses APA format including a full reference list.

Critical thinking/Application to professional practice: Demonstrates mastery conceptualizing the problem, and viewpoints and assumptions of experts are analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated thoroughly. Conclusions are logically presented and applied to professional practice in an exceptional manner.

Action and Evaluation Research: Data Collection and Analysis

Using the information provided in the readings, create a chart or summary list of the characteristics of action (practical and participatory) and evaluation (formative and summative) research. Arrange your chart or summary by research design. Try to create a table or summary list that will be a useful tool for you in the future, especially as it applies to the TAD. Include the following elements in your chart/summary for each research design (3–5 pages):

· Description of the design and when it is appropriate to use

· Participant/sampling techniques

· Types of data collected

· Example application (use a peer-reviewed journal article or provide your own example)

· Resource(s): Locate a resource (book, journal article, or website) that you think is the best reference for the type of research (think about what is useful to you in the future), explain your reasoning.
