What am I required to do in this assignment?

The second assessment for this unit is a 2000-word essay. This essay will be an exposition on a theme, and accompanied by a short reflection. The theme will be one of the five key concepts covered during the course and must not be the same one chosen for the first essay. Your reflection must use one of the reflection models discussed in seminars to consider how your understanding of academia has developed over the course of the semester.

Support and guidance for the assessment will be provided throughout the semester.

You must engage with the course materials and independent reading in order to produce a coherent and clear piece of academic writing. While you will receive a range of support during teaching sessions, it is important that you use your independent study time to practice the following study skills:

  • Finding and using information
  • Referencing and avoiding plagiarism
  • Academic and assignment writing.

How does this assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?

You will receive very specific and detailed support in the first assignment and will then be encouraged to develop your independent learning skills as the unit develops. In both seminars and workshops, your tutor will provide you with multiple opportunities to help you to plan and structure an academic essay and reflection. There will be an opportunity to submit an essay plan and/or draft. There will be opportunities for formative feedback throughout the semester.
