Exceptionalities of the Young Child Scenario
Johnny’s mother was interviewed regarding his growth and development as a baby. This is what we learned:
Physical Development:
· Johnny crawled at 9 months.
· Johnny began banging toys together at 14 months.
· Johnny walked at 19 months.
· Johnny is still unable to grip his pencil correctly.
Cognitive Development:
· Johnny matched objects to their pictures from a book at 3 years old.
· Johnny never looked for toys that were hidden under a blanket.
· Johnny matched simple shapes at 3 ½ years old.
Adaptive/Self Help Development:
· Johnny cooperated with dressing by helping to put his arm through the holes of his shirt at 15 months.
· Johnny fed himself finger foods at 18 months.
· Johnny drank from a cup at 2 years old.
· Johnny was potty trained at 3 ½ years old.
Communication Development:
· Johnny’s first word was “mama” when he was 11 months.
· Johnny waved “bye-bye” at 11 months.
· Johnny began following two-step commands at 2 years old.
Social-Emotional Development:
· Johnny responded with his social smile at 3 months.
· Johnny extended his arms out to be picked up at 14 months.
· Johnny enjoyed make-believe games at 2 ½ years old.
