I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. After reading the resources, I notice my strengths and weaknesses. One strength that I have is promoting achievement of students at all levels. I believe this makes a great educator and one of the reasons why I want to become a kindergarten teacher besides my love for children, I always have positive expectations for all my students and once they a hard achieve a goal, I challenged them to go higher.
Another strength of mines is developing student skill as problem-solvers as they progress toward becoming independent self-directed learners’ students ages 3-5 can sometimes have a hard time sharing and being nice, so showing how to share and being kind to others will help see and imitate that positive behavior. I create opportunities for my students to become more independent. For instance, center choice, book choice, and letting them decide to pick what activity to do for music and movement are some ways that I let students develop more independence.
All though, my strengths are pretty good, I also have some areas that I can admit I need to take time to improve. One disposition I believe I need improving is “Life-long learning and personal growth through reflection, seeking constructive feedback and willing to learn from others and experience. I can say that I lack in this because I know that I can always improve on anything that will help me to become a better educator. I can create more things that will make my classroom environment more fun and exciting. I want to brush up on skills to become a better educator such as, attending state trainings, webinars and anything that will help me grow in my field.
These resources from the Ashford Career Services website are useful tools which help me create goals and taking a self-assessment to see what I need work on, and goals that challenge my strengths. I will complete my degree program next summer and I am excited the ideas above will help to motivate me to keep going and accomplish my goals.
