DISCUSSION 4: STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION EBS 416-O—Strategic Planning

5% of your overall course grade

Overview We have already learned about direction setting, analysis and strategy formulation. Now it is time to focus on what it takes to implement a strategy. The entertainment industry includes many companies that have faced or are facing critical strategic implementation issues. In this discussion we will focus on strategy implementation in entertainment businesses.

Initial Post Choose one of the following for this discussion: 1. Currently Yahoo is in turmoil and its survival as a company is at stake. Research

a little bit about the current state of Yahoo and the implications for its strategic planning. Using concepts and terms you’ve learned in this course thus far, explain the current situation for Yahoo and how its leaders can use Strategic Planning strategies to “fix” the company. As an alternative, you can select a different entertainment company currently in the news related to its strategic plans, needs for a strategic plan, or success or failure of a recent strategic plan.

2. Watch this video about Sony’s 5-year Brand Strategy. 3. As part of its strategic plan, AMC Theaters recently became the largest cinema chain by acquiring one of its previous competitors. Research a bit about this acquisition and explain AMC’s strategy using concepts and terms you have learned about thus far in this course.
