The aim of the article is to highlight the challenges and the opportunities the poor people
living in the urban areas encounter in the process of leveraging the beneficial education. The article
targeted on answering the aim through targeting on the article reviews from 1995-2017. The
method used was the review of the literature from the stated period and in the process is when 66
articles were chosen for analysis. The analysis targeted the educational achievement for the urban
poor and the condition of educational access in terms of learning materials and environment. The
measures that were included comprise the aspect of inclusion, cultural issues and policies that are
in existence. The study aligns with other findings in the aspect that urban poor experience
challenges of limited resources for access to education and also matters to do with culture. The
information from the article is useful in the paper because it highlights various research that has
shown the opportunities and the limitation about the access of education by the urban poor
population. The article is essential for the paper especially as a literature review source because
the article carries information that has been related since 1995 to 2017. The thoughts that came
into the mind is to support the population in improving education access by developing policies
the curb the mentioned challenges. I agree with the main argument.

The article highlights about the challenges that the American cities have encountered for the
past 40 years where it has resulted to a considerate discontent. The article has highlighted that the
poor living in the urban areas experience tough economic challenges that are associated with the
increasing rent rates and limited job opportunities that comes with mechanization. The research
question is answered by the provision that more focus is directed in the private sector including
schools where those that are wealthy and middle income earners are capable of supporting their
children to access education. The method used in the research is to review previous sources that
use credible methods in conducting the research. The analysis of the findings indicated that the
urban resurgence represents only the private sector success and those in the public sector have to
wait for change and transformation. The measures included was the comparison of the current
status and what it was like 40 years ago. Poor students experience high challenges in accessing
both the high school and college education. The best intervention is to improve the living standards
to make the access to education for the students viable and quality reducing dropouts. The article
aligns with other sources and this information is useful in adding content to the topic of discussion
as the literature source.

The Effect of Reducing Complexity and Uncertainty in College Pricing on the Choices of Low-
Income Students. American Economic Review, 111(6), 1721-1756.

The article by Susan et al. (2021), stated the issue of segregation that comes automatically
for poor students that get themselves unable to attend selected colleges as compared to the upper
income students. Students’ decision to join a given selected college or to drop out is determined
by uncertainty, biasness and the loss aversion in the college institutions. The research targets in
expressing how poverty contributes to the student decisions of the quality of education they access.
A quantitative research method was used in the process of observing how the income and
achievement of a student is influenced. There is the determination that economic issue is the
challenge in most of the students’ dropouts due to the poor quality of education that they encounter.
The included measures in the study included the application and enrolment rates of the college
students in the institution of choice. The article informs me that the economic status of the student
determines the quality of education that student receives and also influence their decisions to
remain in school or dropout. The information in the article is useful as it relates to the Los Angeles
City slums student dropout in high school and college by highlighting the factor of income status.
The article fits the literature review section in the senior paper. I agree with the main argument of
the article.

contagion and high school dropout: The role of friends, romantic partners, and siblings. Journal of
Educational Psychology, 113(3), 572-584. https://doi.org/10.1037/edu0000484
The aim of the article is to offer a comprehensive view about cases of student dropout spread
by applying the aspect of dropout occurrences among the friends, family and romantic relationship
partners. The aim was achieved by conducting research where primary data was collected to
determine the influence of friendship, romance and sibling to adolescent student’s decision to drop
out of school. The participants of the research was voluntarily asked to participate where 545
Canadian adolescents participated. A qualitative research method was used targeting to get the
understanding of the social influence of the adolescents to drop out of school especially in urban
schools. The measures that were targeted in the research include the risk of quitting and also
independent decision of dropping out of school. The findings indicated that social contagion is a
significant threat for the adolescent dropping out of schools and more intervention towards
prevention against social influence should be done to ensure students finish school. The article
aligns with other research because it states that there are factors that contribute to the youth
dropping out of school. The information from the article is useful in the paper in a manner that it
tries to provide solutions about the factors that lead to school dropout for low income students in
urban areas. The article information would fit the literature review for the senior paper research. I
agree with the main argument because it gives direction of what might happen to adolescents when
influenced.

Health, 13(2), 266-278. https://doi.org/10.1007/s12310-021-09410-4
The article aims to show how students living in poverty have a high chance of dropping out
of school because of poor quality access to education. The issue of poverty in the urban cities and
that affect the immigrants who are living in poverty have similar characteristics because they both
get discriminated against in the quality of education they receive. The research answers the aim
through collection of primary data on how poverty influences the student self-esteem and also
dropout intention. The measures that were conducted include the multilinear regression model with
multi-group analysis. A qualitative study was conducted to ascertain the influence that poverty has
on increasing the rate of students dropping out of school. 249 pre-adolescents and adolescents
living in poverty were involved in the study after seeking parental consent and also in a voluntary
basis. The findings indicate that peer acceptance is a social contributing factor that led to students’
decision to drop out of school and also lowering their self-esteem. The dropout intention of the
students might be influenced socially based on the poverty status. The article is useful for the paper
because it highlights the possible contributing factors of student dropout in urban schools. The
literature review section is where the article data would be of more value. I agree with the main
argument for the paper.
