Week 1 Discussion

1) What are your thoughts about being an Entrepreneur?

Entrepreneur is a person who creates a new business or businesses, bearing majority of risk with the possibility of enjoying majority of the reward. Being an entrepreneur can be liberating for an individual or group of individuals because of the autonomy and freedom but it comes with a lot of responsibility and accountability. Unwavering dedication, perseverance and entrepreneurial acumen are crucial for an individual to become a successful entrepreneur.

2) What are some of the greatest challenges faced by entrepreneurs today?

Entrepreneurs face lot of challenges given the relentless competition today. The first major challenge is taking that leap of faith and making the decision to start something new. The next challenge is cash flow management. For any new business it takes time to make profit and be net positive. Having contingency funds and reserves can help the business sustain during the initial phase. An entrepreneur takes on multiple roles and responsibilities at least in the initial phase. It is important that he/she pays close attention to time management and delegation of work.

3) What are some of the greatest rewards of being an entrepreneur?

The greatest reward of being an entrepreneur is seeing your idea come to fruition and making a difference in the lives of people. Being an entrepreneur gives you the opportunity to develop leadership skills and learn a new skill or two. The sense of autonomy promotes overall job satisfaction with an added benefit of financial reward.

4) Do you think that you would ever like to become an entrepreneur? Why or why not?

I would love to become an entrepreneur as it will give me an opportunity to work on something that I am passionate about, help generate employment and contribute to the economy. An entrepreneur can create opportunities for other entrepreneurs and help each other in being successful.
