colocation space over 130,000 sq. m and has presence in 33 markets across five continents. It offers high integrated solutions such as wireless area network (WAN) optimization and Disaster recovery services. In addition to serving traditional sectors, the company offers services to E-commerce industries and Government bodies. Interxion operates 39 data centers in 11 countries. The company offers solutions for private cloud connection and data analytics. Anexia has 58 data centers across five continents. In comparison with Equinix, Inc., Anexia and Interxion, the company has limited geographical presence and limited product offerings. Limited geographical presence puts the company at a risk as any adverse development in the political, economic or climatic environment of the region may have an adverse impact on its business.
7.4 E-Shelter Facility Service Gmbh - Opportunities
7.4.1 Opportunities - Growing Demand for Cloud Computing
The company stands to benefit from growing demand for cloud computing. According to Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the global market for cloud computing is expected to reach US$241 billion by 2020. Dependency on hard- to-deploy physical servers results in slow response to variable organizational needs, which drives organizations and government agencies worldwide to use Cloud computing. Cloud computing provides easy and cost effective solutions to the organizations to address the need for data storage. Additionally, it offers reliable and easy storage to the telecom and related companies for developing mobile apps. At the same time, it is expected to reduce the IT companies’ spending for data analytics. e-shelter provides flexible space, which helps in developing cloud computing infrastructure. Therefore, positive outlook for cloud computing may increase the demand for the company’s offerings, which may result in improved financial performance.
7.4.2 Opportunities - International Expansion
The company has taken several initiatives to expand its presence in international market. For instance, in June 2015, the company launched it datacenters in the Wienerberg area of Favoriten, Austria. The company invested EUR140 million for the development of datacenters in Vienna. In the first phase of construction, it has built the first datacenters with an approximately 29,000 sq. m. site area. After the completion of all three phases, the company will have total floor area of over 24,000 sq. m. and a total datacenter capacity of 8,400 sq. m. This new datacenter facility may help expanding the company’s presence outside Germany and will create central internet- and cloud hub for Central and South Europe, apart from increasing its market share.
7.4.3 Opportunities - Growth in Entertainment and Media Industry
The growing media and entertainment industry may drive the company’s financial performance. Increasing web content access, pay-TV subscriptions, billboards and increasing production of movies are likely to drive growth in entertainment and media industry. In addition, electronic delivery of movies such as video on demand is expected to see a significant growth. e-shelter provides flexible space and related solutions for the media and digital distribution sector. Therefore, e-shelter may capture the growth opportunities originating from the industry.
7.5 E-Shelter Facility Service Gmbh - Threats
7.5.1 Threats - Intense Competition
Increasing competition may force the company to invest heavily to hold its market position. The competitive factors, which may determine the company's position in the market, include effectiveness of solutions, price, customer service, brand recognition, and effective marketing and sales efforts. Its major competitors include Equinix, Inc., Virgin Terremark and Interxion. These competitors have taken several initiatives to strengthen their presence in market. For instance, Equinix focuses heavily on improving its geographical presence. In July 2014, Equinix, Inc acquired ALOG datacenters of Brazil S.A. to strengthen its presence across Latin America market. In such an environment, the biggest challenge for the company is to sustain sales growth and retain market share.
7.5.2 Threats - Stringent Regulations
The company is required to comply with the stringent regulations at the federal and state levels. Internet-related services, related communication services and information technology, and electronic commerce in the European market are regulated by government. Any amendments in national or EU policy could affect the company’s business operations. The changes in regulation may affect prices and interconnection arrangements. Government also regulates access arrangements related to various types of infrastructure, and privacy requirements through the protection of personal and activities. The company requires investing more in its facilities to meet regulatory requirements, which may affect its operational performance.

7.5.3 Threats - Increasing IT Complexity
e-shelter offers complex IT solutions to its customers, which makes it prone to various risks arising from IT complexity. For example, in spite of testing and quality control, the company cannot guarantee the absence of shortcomings in the present versions or advanced versions of its products. It may face challenges if products contain undetected errors or if services fail to meet customer expectations. The deployment of products across a wide range of platforms, integration of software with third party software applications and databases are some of the major challenges for the company. e-shelter requires huge investments for successful implementation of software and integration of various product components. It invests in providing training to the staff and partners involved in the implementation of software to ensure technical product expertise for qualified project managers, which increase its operating expenditure. In the integration of emerging technologies and application modes with traditional data centers, the company encounters several challenges in scalability, efficiency, operating maintenance, energy consumption and safety primarily due to the ‘solid-state’ of a traditional data centers. Traditional data centers mostly have an architectural mode with server and storage equipment stacking and external networking. Although virtualization technology provides certain fluidity to computing and storage, input/output (I/O) virtualization can’t be fully completed, which restricts sharing of IT resources between different systems effectively. It limits the system scalability and efficiency, besides wasting energies and increasing the operational maintenance expenses of a data center and causing complicated safety management issues. These complexities restrict the company’s ability to satisfy the requirements of IT infrastructure in the cloud computing and big data era.
