Drafting the Analytical Report

Tips to get Started

1. Be sure you have a topic that works and you have completed the Work Plan with your 5 preliminary sources.

2. Build the template based on the sample: APA – modified – Cover Page and running head optional (in text citations and Reference page required).

3. Consider your goal – pro/con; prob solution and build your sub-headings accordingly (numbers/bullets/bold font to highlight importance/all okay!)

4. Fill in what you know and go back as you know more.

5. Remember that the introduction is the Work Plan repurposed.

6. Conclusion = your findings and final analysis

7. Recommendations = the action plan you think they should consider; sometimes this is “all you” and you may not need to cite.

8. Keep in mind the tool of ANALOGY – find a company that is similar to the one you have chosen and who is doing the thing you are proposing or analyzing; how did it go for them? This is great evidence to support your goal!

9. Remember that you are NOT simply reporting information, you are continuously ANALYZING throughout your report.

10. Personal Communication is reputable as a resource – interviews of people who work in the company or who may be part of the situation/purpose. Be sure to look up how to cite this APA style. APA help – I have links in the AR module – use this resource!!!

11. Executive Summary – write this last; remember that this is a “mini-report” and should be persuasive!

12. Finished? Submit your draft to Canvas by the deadline for my quick review and Peer Review!
