Ending Animal Cruelty

1. The Issue (Problem):

- Urging stronger global action to protect endangered wildlife.

- Highlighting the consequences of failing to address this crisis: loss of biodiversity, ecological imbalances, and threats to our planet's health.

[ News: BBC uncovered a monkey abuse community in Indonesia and the U.S. The abuse strated on Youtube and then moved to encrypted groups such as Telegram. The BBC investigation found many “clients”f rom the U.S., U.K., and other countries paid to have baby long-tailed macaques abused and killed in Indonesia.]

2. The Context:

- The alarming rate of species extinction and habitat destruction worldwide.

- The need for focused efforts within the United Kingdom, acknowledging that our course's focus is national.

(eg. From mistreated monkeys to poor bears and lions stuck in shady roadside zoos, animals are suffering everywhere. )

3. Applicable Laws, Policies, and Human Rights:

- Animal Welfare Act 2006: strengthen penalties on animal cruelty; expanding the scope of protection to cover more species and aspects of animal welfare. enhancing the enforcement mechanisms to ensure effective implementation

- The Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981: consider advocatinhg for changes or improvements to the polities that protect wildlife. (eg. reduce habitat destruction and protect natural habitats)

- Farming and Agricultural Pratices: advocating for the use of alternative, less cruel for procedures (eg. animal testing)

4. Objectives:

- raising awareness, changing policies, and ultimately ending animal cruelty

5. Stakeholders:

- government folks, UK governement officals and policymakers (pass and enforce laws that protect animals, like shutting down the wildlife trade)

- the big advocacy groups, use that powerful voice to expose the cruelty, whether it's live crocodile-killing shows or insane stuff like hurting kittens with high heels

- for us citizens, we can make a difference by boycotting products tied to animal cruelty, throwing some cash at the cause, and voting smart

- vitcims and affected communities (eg. rabid patients)

- private sector and business interests (pet industry, fashion industry, or food industry, etc.)

6. Opportunities, Challenges, and Obstacles:

- growing global awareness but highly emotive situation

- potential reluctance to allocate resources

7. Strategy: Call to Action and Message:

- call upon the UK government to take a strong stance in protecting wildlife animals.

- emphazises punishment on ainimal curelty even on the internet

8. Resources Required: both human and financial:

- human resources, funds for lobbying efforts, research and advocacy materials, technology ( eg. for tracking the illegal wildlife trade) , legal support, public events

9. Implementation:

- from grassroots organizing to engaging with lawmakers

- engage key dicision-makers

- conduct public awareness campaigns

Are you requiring government to implement existing policies and law? Are you looking for government to allocate resources including budget towards your course? Are you looking for government to ban something increase penalties...?
