Literature Review of Solution and Implementation

Literature Review of Solution

The use of foley catheters has been associated with the reduction of the occurrence of CAUTI. Al-Qahtani et al. (2019) conducted a research study to identify the efficiency of anti-microbial catheters in preventing CAUTI. The study took place at a hospital setting whose participants were patients drawn from the ICU. Among the anti-microbial catheters was the foley catheter (Al-Qahtani et al., 2019). The study revealed that the foley catheter was among the most efficient catheters that were associated with a reduction of occurrences of CAUTI. This was because the foley catheter has been designed using silver coating preventing entry of pathogens. The catheter also inhibits pathogens through anti-biotic coating during hospitalization preventing their entry into the patients’ body. Patients treated using foley catheters had limited cases of infection. This research study provides a possible solution to CAUTI in clinical facilities.

In another study, Magnusson et al. (2019) conducted a qualitative study to find out the effect of long-term use of noble metal alloy coated foley urinary catheter in the prevention of CAUTI infection. The research study involved a female patient as a participant with a neurogenic bladder dysfunction who had an insertion of the foley catheter. The results revealed that CAUTI symptoms in the patient disappeared from one month (Magnusson et al., 2019). This research study is helpful to this project as it highlights the importance of long-term use of the foley catheter in preventing the occurrence of CAUTI, making it critical for educating health practitioners in the prevention of infections at hospital care.

Implementation/Intervention

The project implementation includes an education program on the use of foley catheters to prevent the occurrence of CAUTI. Based on the findings from research on the long-term effectiveness in preventing the occurrence of the infection. It is evident that health practitioners need to use foley catheters to prevent the occurrence of CAUTI among patients with urinary disorders. The education program that will involve all health practitioners drawn from the renal unit will be conducted over one year. This is because the use of the foley catheter requires an understanding of its usage in controlling urinal leakage and proper maintenance on its use as evidence in the research by Magnusson et al. (2019) for long-term effectiveness.

The steps towards the implementation of the use of the catheter through health education will first begin with a two-month planning phase. This would involve engagement with the hospital management as well as the healthcare practitioners drawn from the renal unit of the facility. The second step would involve preparation for training including acquiring the equipment and medical experts and developing a schedule for each training session which would be two hours. The final stage would be to conduct the training on the appropriate use of foley catheters to prevent CAUTI.

This project would be useful as it would improve the knowledge of health care practitioners on preventing the occurrence of the infection through the appropriate use of foley catheters. This includes monitoring urinal leakage when using the catheter, its use in preventing entry of pathogen after urinary system surgery, and its long-term use in the monitoring emptying a patient’s bladder. The intervention is expected to reduce the occurrence of CAUTI by 30% at the hospital level.

The follow-up procedure includes frequent visits to determine the impact of the training among the clinical in the renal unit during training and assessments to determine the reduction of cases of infection. The evaluation visits will be done monthly for a period of one year. The clinical staff will be provided with a refresher training based on the evaluation of the project. This project would be able to address lengthy stays at hospitals and rental units as well as reduce high healthcare costs among patients resulting from CAUTI. The project will be discontinued if no significant improvements are recorded at the end of the implementation of the project.

This sentence is wrong. The use of Foley catheter leads to CAUTI. If you are talking about special catheters, then you should explicitly mention that in your sentence.

Contradictory to the fact that Foley catheters leads to CAUTI

Are you talking about special foley catheters with silver coating or metal alloy coated catheters? If so, you need to mention that special catheter in your sentence. Your sentence presents a big contradiction to the fact that Floey catheter use leads to CAUTI.
