I have set aside my days for clinical that I know will not interfere with my work schedule and the days off that my physician has planned for himself. I scheduled myself for one extra day in case something was to come up or if for some reason I am short of the 119 hours for the term. It is going to be a busy 8 weeks but I really enjoy going to clinical I feel that I learn so much while I am there and it just gives me that reminder that I am doing the right schooling. One large goal that I would like to achieve during this term is really getting down my SOAP Note and SOAP report that I give to my preceptor. During the last term I really struggled to get the information to him without it being all over the place. He was super nice about it and was willing to sit down and work with me. I have been practicing some over the break and hope that I can show him that I have improved some. I also want to make more decisions concerning the plan of care. Last term was based on doing history and physicals so I look forward to being a part of the decision making on plans of care for the patients.

I read an interesting article on how we transition from different stages during our time of clinical. “This study’s findings have the potential to contribute to further understanding of the preceptorship process involved in the preparation of student nurse practitioners” (Billay, Myrick & Yonge, 2015, p.430). It gives ample information about how we transition through different stages and how important the school staff is in this. Thankfully, USU has been great in helping with this process. I plan to use evidence to support my clinical decisions by using recommendations that are up-to-date and evidence based. I also plan to use my Clinical Advisor book to help me with decision making. In the first few days of clinical I plan to rely a bit on my preceptor to help me make sure that I am not making inaccurate decisions for the patient and if I am why are they inaccurate. I really look forward to this course and the clinical hours.
