1. The merits of public administration are numerous, some of the key areas are: planning, coordination, advisory value, non-profit viability, efficiency and sustainability ("5 reasons", n.d.). Public administration is what helps our government run at the highest level of efficiency, at the local level you see public administrators work to implement programs and manage the people who are involved with those programs. These programs are for the good of the community. This can be your community, a community you care for and want to see thrive. Public administrators can work at the highest levels of government, as well, with cabinet members for the president, police commissioners, legislators and more. Without these individuals, simple day-to-day functions of government would decrease in efficiency and innovation. Public administration is intertwined into our government. While politicians may work to implement new laws and policies, it is the public administrators who work to plan how they can make this happen. Public administration is also their after the laws and policies are passed to implement these changes into our community. They are vital to the efficiency of our government. Public administration starts from the bottom, the most basic level, such as in DMV offices, but it reaches to the highest echelons of government ("5 reasons", n.d.). These public administrators are sought out for their expert advice, meaning they're often the people behind some of the biggest decisions in public policy enacted by government, thus showing the importance of this field and these individuals. There work is not just limited to our government, they work in the private sector and non-profit areas to better serve the community. These public administrators are essential in many fields and at all levels. 

These reason for explaining these merits is to help the public or anyone considering a career in the field of public administration understand the impact public administrators has in their community and in government. This field offers the ability to impact your government, grow leadership skills in your self and others, it is diverse in that public administrators can go the public or private route and they work at the highest level of government or the lower levels of government. The ability to make a difference in one's community and in our government is the most intriguing to me and I believe will be the biggest factor in helping others see the importance of this field.

Do you know what public administration entails? According to Learn.org (n.d.) “public administration is the field of service that maintains a civil society and provides for the needs of the public.” Public administrators can work in different realms, which can entail private, public and non-profit sector. If one has the willingness to help people, public administration is a great field to be part of. I have worked as a public servant for 15 years and it’s extremely rewarding. I have been able to make an impact by implementing programs and activities for youth, adults and older adults in our communities. If one has the heart to serve people, follow ethical practices and love to perform leadership roles and changes in the community, then public administration can be a great field of choice for you.

It’s easy to judge public administration if one doesn’t understand the purpose of it. Public Administration is for us, the people. Public administrators are like the voice and ears in the government for the citizens. We are lucky to have public administrators that are willing to speak up for citizens. Public services administrators manage community organizations and social services programs (Learn.org, 2018). They observe the programs and the policies that have been put in place and make sure they are working for us. If we happen to disagree or just see that it isn’t working, then we can let administrators know and they could report back to the government for us to see about implementing a policy that works. Isn’t it great to have your opinions and ideas heard and possibly implemented by the government without having to get in involved. So with this being said, it is my hope that you understand the importance of public administration and understand that your thoughts could also be heard.
