DQ 7-1
Negotiation techniques are useful in almost every area of basic communication skills. The same attributes hat make a person good at communication are going to also make them good at negotiating. Qualities like eye contact, listening, paying attention and being prepared at the bargaining table are some of the key elements of good negotiating strategy (Johnson, 2013).
If we are negotiating with a person or group of higher influence, it is important to treat them with respect. That respect is a precursor to quality communication with them. We show this respect through paying attention and eye contact. We show our investment in the deal by arriving to the table prepared and knowledgeable about the topic and its impact for all the stakeholders involved.
Another important negotiating technique is with the ability to compromise with the other side and understanding that compromise will be a key component in both sides reaching a joint decision that benefits both sides.
