n today’s times, with social media being so prevalent and every cause being taken to the extreme, the public is able to place considerable pressure on administrations (Johnson, 2018). This pressure may not always yield the change that the public is after, but at the very least it will cause the administration to acknowledge the concern. Taking something as simple as the public bathroom concerns of recent years. There was no way that they were going to get a third bathroom installed everywhere across the nation. But they did get a third bathroom in some places. The biggest thing that was accomplished was by putting the issue on the national table and making everyone aware of the challenge that a portion of our population faces daily. They made PA’s aware of something that they need to consider when making future decisions. That is still a win in my book.
Other examples include gun control or pro-gun pressures from either side of the argument. Of course gun owners are not going to be able to have any firearm they desire and of course all the guns across the land are not going to be collected. But the ongoing argument about keeping our nation and families safe is a necessary one and should stay at the front of our thoughts.
Public pressure on administrations is a key method of creating and perpetuating the changes that are needed to keep things running smoothly.

The public has a tremendous impact on political behavior and political agenda. The public input can have a positive or a negative impact, depending on what is going on at what point is being made. We have many examples of the agenda of the public being sent through social media such as Facebook. Many people use social media to garner attention to themselves or to their cause. The 2016 election was heavily influenced by fake news. At the time that this was happening, Facebook denied that their platform was used to sway any elections or have any impact on public opinion. In the aftermath of the election, one of these books production managers stated “In 2016, we as Facebook or far too slow to recognize how bad actors were of using our platform” (Kennedy, 2018). Many causes have been brought to light by social media. It is far-reaching, and it can opinions in many situations. Personally I have utilized Snopes to research stories for validity. I think one of the biggest I found was regarding a bottled water company having gel in the water bottles. As I watched the video that they posted, I was sure that was ice that was coming out, but it did look like gel , so I researched it and it was indeed fake news. This post may have been a social experiment of some sort, but I am sure it had an impact on the bottled water company. This fake news video was viewed more than 18.9 million times since 2016 (Thomas, 2016). While this is not necessarily political, it did turn into a viral video. If fake news about something that is unimportant, what impact does it have on something pollical? I believe when a person wants things to go a certain way, they will follow stories that reflect their inner thoughts on what they desire as an outcome. It may not be a conscious thought, but we do lean toward what we believe.

The public has tremendous influence over our public administrators and institutions now more than ever before. Much of this is attributed with the rise of technology and wide spread use of Internet sharing devices. There is a higher chance of catching someone in the wrong, there is many spotlights projected on our congressmen and leaders of today, more so than there was in the past. The text speaks of ethical climates, elaborating that they are best understood as part of an organization’s culture (Johnson, 2013). In government positions, the public expects those elected or appointed to uphold their duties with high moral and ethical standards. Dark sided behaviors, such as sexual harassment or discrimination, are not tolerated by the general public and when one of these government officials gets caught in scandal there is zero tolerance (Johnson, 2013).
The Governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam has been in the news lately for an old photo from 1984 that depicts the governor with a black face painted, as he was dressed as Michael Jackson for Halloween (Moran, 2019). It has sparked outrage across the nation and some members of the public want him to resign calling him a racist. This is an example of how the media and the use of our modern technology can accelerate hate throughout our nation influencing the public to call for resignation without actually gathering all sides to the story. I am not saying that what he did back in 1984 is justified, but clearly this was many years ago. If there is more to the story of him actually exhibiting signs of racism in his position as Governor, then he should resign.
