1. An example of a public-private-nonprofit partnership would be Envision Utah. Envision Utah is dedicated to studying the effects of long-term growth in the area of Northern Utah. The goal in this partnership is to ensure Utah’s high quality of life, natural environment and economic vitality during the next 50 years (Lebeck, 2018). This is done by empowering the people to create they communities they seek. Envision Utah works to bring the community, elected officials, developers, business leaders and more members together, so that these groups can work together and make well informed decisions as to how Utah should grow (Lebeck, 2018). Collectively they work together to figure out a plan and the best way to implement this plan for the community.
Envision Utah is structured by bringing together action teams to examine topics. In all, there were more than 400 Utah experts working to identify the challenges, potential choices, and potential outcomes of those choices across these various topics (Leo, n.d.)
This partnership is successful due to citizen and partnering agencies who are fully invested in the success of this partnership. Future partnerships could benefit from looking at Envision Utah, because this partnership is made up of people who are fully invested in the future because they are members of this community, thus this partnership has a deeper meaning to them. They are invested because they want to see Utah grow. Knowing they played a part in its growth helps to further their commitment and helps to strengthen the partnership.

What I learned is that the hospital I work for, which is a non-profit, has set up a partnership with the City of Santa Maria Police Department (public) in efforts to provide efficiency for our police force. Santa Maria is roughly the size of 100,000 population. Santa Maria does have a holding jail at their main headquarters, yet it isn’t’ suited for long term incarceration and there is no medical staff licensed to provide medical clearances for those individuals arrested (that is where the hospital comes in). The city does not employee a physician in their holding jail, due to budget costs. The county of Santa Barbara is considered the main correctional facility for Santa Maria and medical staff is present at the larger site. Unfortunately, it is located about 80 miles south from Santa Maria. So, you could imagine the strain on SMPD to have to drive all the arrestees to Santa Barbara, that just wouldn't be economical.
The Solution:
A partnership or relationship formed between the City of Santa Maria PD and Marian Hospital to bring those requiring a medical clearance to the ED. Once they were medically cleared by an ED physician, the officer then takes the individual to a holding cell in Santa Maria, where they wait for the next shuttle to bus them down to the main site in Santa Barbara. This allows for Santa Maria’s officers to get back on the streets more quickly, which keeps the citizens of Santa Maria safe.
It seems this partnership is in compliance with the current health care Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) laws. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), if the nature of the request made by the officer is to have the individual medically evaluated by a physician and it is not of emergency nature, then the hospital is required to only perform such screening as would be appropriate for any individual presenting in that manner, to determine that the individual does not have a medical emergency (Pawl, 2006).

A successful public-private-nonprofit partnership in Pittsburgh is the Internet Essentials Program. The Internet Essentials Program is for families who go to Pittsburgh Public Schools, and are enrolled in the free lunch program. The program offers discounted laptops and WIFI for families at an extremely low rate. Xfinity is the private for profit company that offers the services. Internet Essentials is a nonprofit organization that installs the services for the families. It is a beneficial program for students and their families who are enrolled in Pittsburgh Public Schools. Otherwise a lot of families would not have access to computers and internet; which is often required to complete various assignments in school. I am enrolled in the program myself and it has helped me drastically in my schooling. The reason it is so successful is because each entity involved helps to fulfill their role, and it is effective in serving the public. Future partnerships can learn from this partnership and how effective it is in benefiting the public. By facilitating this partnership many socioeconomic stressors have been avoided. Many students will have access to technology that they may not have had access to prior to the Internet Essentials Program.
