Microsoft (MS) Project Online

The Agile features such as Task Board are only available in the MS Project Online software. Therefore, this guide will walk students through the download of the free trial for the MS Project Online software, which is different from MS Project 2019. Go to the website, https://www.MS.com/en-us/MS-365/project/compare-MS-project-management-software?tab=1. Then, click on the Project Plan 1, “Try now” option which is circled in red in Figure 1.1.

Next, create your free trial account as seen in Figure 1.2. Enter in an email address, and press “Next.” The software expires in one month. An email will be sent to the email you provided alerting you of the expiration date. The next step is to set-up your new account by pressing the set-up account button as seen in Figure 1.3.

Fill in the fields under “Tell us about yourself” as shown in Figure 1.4. After filling in all of the information, hit “next.” Then, either choose the “text me” if a cell phone number was provided, or “call me” if a landline number was provided as displayed in Figure 1.5.

The next step involves typing in the verification code as displayed in Figure 1.6. The verification code will be either sent in a text or provided by phone depending on which option was selected back in Figure 1.5. Once the verification code is entered in to the field, then press “Verify.” Then, enter in a chosen domain name as shown in Figure 1.7. After typing in the domain name, press “Check Availability” to make sure that the chosen domain name is available. After you have entered in a domain name that is available, then press “next.”

After you have your domain name, then fill in the information requested under the “Create your business identity” as displayed in Figure 1.8. Then, click on “Sign up.” The next step is to click on “Go to Setup” as displayed in Figure 1.9.

Next, there will be a series of messages on your screen such as “Creating your account,” “Setting up your account…Please don’t refresh the page,” etc. An example is provided in Figure 1.10. Please let the system continue to load without pressing any keys. Next, you will see a screen that looks like Figure 1.11. Just “X” out of this screen.

The next step is to click on the red arrow that has “All apps” written under it as displayed in Figure 1.12. This will expand all the apps available. After expanding “All apps,” you will be able to click on the Project app as shown in Figure 1.13. Next, you can begin using MS Project Online as displayed in Figure 1.14. You can click on the “New Blank Project” button to begin using MS Project Online. Please refer to your textbook, Chapter 22 on Agile Development: The Iterative Approach to learn how to use the agile features available in MS Project Online.
