Doping in professional football
Although doping is more common in sports such as cycling and athletics, it also occurs in football. There are a number of high profile doping cases that have been reported to have occurred. Interest in doping in sports has been triggered by the need to understand the actual effects of this act on the integrity of sports. It has also been triggered by the wish to understand whether there are present cases of doping in professional football involving popular teams. As an administrative issue, I intend to find out the loopholes in sports administration that permit doping (if any) to occur despite it being illegal according to FIFA. Further, I am interested in learning the consequences associated with doping on individuals, teams and the entire sport organization.
For instance, I wish to learn what FIFA does following doping allegations and how FIFA prevents doping from happening. The assumption is that doping in football occurs but is not noticed due to lack of evidence. In other words, I think that sports organizations are no satisfied with the existing method of testing for doping. It is the reason that athletes playing under the influence of performance enhancing drugs often go unnoticed.
Doping refers to the practice of using performance enhancing drugs. They are used to increase strength and are used intentionally or unintentionally. Doping has negative impacts on the physical and mental as well as emotional well-being of players. They suffer from anxiety, hallucinations, and psychosis (Doping in football: What is it, why do players do it & famous allegations, 2018). Doping is likely to occur in players who are in pressure to constantly perform to certain expectations by the team’s management or fans. Also, players who have suffered serious injuries may use doping to enhance their performance (Doping in football: What is it, why do players do it & famous allegations, 2018). Others use drugs due to peer pressure and lack of knowledge on the negative impacts of doping.
