Before you read "A Brief History of The Modern Day Straw," (Links to an external site.) (https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/straws-history) I want you to preview the text. To do that read the preview reading strategy notes (posted above this assignment on week 5 page). Then write down at least five items you noticed. You can write these out in bullet points and a clipped sentence or fragment is okay. Then write a brief paragraph (50-100 words) about what you think the essay will be about after previewing it. If you get strong at previewing you can save yourself a lot of time with schoolwork because you can skim or speed-read through the remainder. We'll talk about more reading strategies in the coming weeks. Give this a go and don't stress out too much about it.
