Dear Students,
For this book project, you are going to make a video and narrate it! Adobe Spark has a free video maker for students at this address:

Just sign in with your school ID. (I used my email and PW and got in.) Don't be intimidated by the program, it's very user friendly and you can easily upload pictures, text, and even music!! (Just make sure they're all appropriately Colonial!)

You can also use another video making program, whatever you're comfortable with!
So this is what you need to do:
1) Make a folder on your computer for pictures and music for your video. Use as many pictures as you can - the more interesting and accurate your video is, the higher your grade will be.
2) Create a fictional persona that is either Native American (Haudenosuanee) or Quaker. Introduce yourself, and include details such as:
Where you live (choose a real city, town, or village that existed in early 18th century Pennsylvania).
What do you live in? A colonial house, longhouse, mansion, shack, on the streets, on a boat?
Do you work? What do you do? If not, how do you get income?
Are you married? Do you have a family?
What do they do?
How do you know the main characters from the book? Do you have a close relationship with any of them? (Remember, you are making a fictional character to interact with people so go for it, but keep it realistic. You can't be the King or Duchess of Lower Grok or anything like that, lol!) Talk about your experience with the other side; if you are a Haudenosaunee, how do you get on with the Quakers? What do you think about them, and what shared experiences with the book's characters can you participate in? Likewise, if you are a Quaker, how do you get on with the Native Americans? What do you think about them?
Finally, describe the story in the book from your viewpoint (so it's ok to use first person here!) and decide if you feel the punishment fit the crime. How do you feel about it? If you don't agree, what would you have chosen instead? How did this increase your understanding of both the Native American and English Quaker culture?
I really want you to get creative with this project. Incorporate as much sensory input as you can. Use actual Colonial or Native American music in the background of your narration, food and actual homes/items, etc.. You get the picture, if not, please let me know! Think in three dimensions, so that you can have as complete a portrait of Colonial Pennsylvania and the interaction between the two disparate peoples as possible.
Everything needs to be formally cited on the Works Cited Page. You don't have to reference your pictures in the video, but be sure to note which order they come in on the WC page.
Finally, for the ever present question: Your video needs to be at least 3 minutes long. Each "slide" of the video should be no longer than 10 seconds, so figure out how many slides you need!
This project is worth 25% of your final grade and I'm giving you an extra week to get it done, so please take the time to do a good job!
