DOCUMENTARIES (2021)

You first need to pick a documentary topic from those listed and then watch the specific documentary or documentaries. The Dirty Money Documentaries are about 1 hour long and some of the others may be 2 hours long. As you watch, you also want to identify a company or organization within the documentary that has acted unethical and will serve as the organization you will use as we proceed through the course for the “documentary case analysis questions.”

Some of the documentaries appear available for free (PBS documentaries) and some may be available if you have a service (ex. Nexflix or Amazon Prime) and some may require a rental fee.

Topic areas:

· Dirty Money – Wagon Wheel – Nexflix Documentary about Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo was long seen as the “golden child” of banking. But former employees detail the ruthless and fraudulent practices that fueled its growth.

· Dirty Money – Hard NOx – Nexflix Documentary about Volkswagen Diselgate. Documentary reveals shocking new details about VW’s corporate deceit, and exposes the unholy alliance between governments and automakers that allowed the automaker to put tens of thousands of lives at risk – all for the sake of a $500 part.

· Dirty Money – Drug Short – Nexflix Documentary about Big Pharma. Wall street short-sellers expose a scam that regulators overlook: how Big Pharma gouges patients in need of life-saving drugs.

· Clothing Industry – The True Cost

The True Cost (rent $9.99 or available on Amazon Prime)

You will need to focus on H&M or Gap and conduct additional research on one of these companies. There is a series called Sweatshop where a Norwegian documentary company hired three young people to work in a textile factory in Cambodia. https://truecostmovie.com/store/the-true-cost-digital-download
