P/P/RQ Alignment
Problem:
What are you trying to solve? It should be a business problem and incorporate the organization being studied.
Example: “It is not known how employees of Linski Co. describe the impact of the HR Incentive Program on their job satisfaction and what improvements can be made to the HRIP to increase job satisfaction.”
Purpose:
Must explain how you plan to better understand (or even solve) the stated problem for the organization.
Should incorporate the method and design statement
Example: “The purpose of this qualitative descriptive case study is to determine how employees of Linski Co. describe the impact of the HRIP on their job satisfaction. The study also poses to examine what improvements can be made to the HROP to increase job satisfaction.
4
P/P/RQ Alignment
Research Questions:
Should match exact language of problem statement (except for grammar).
Example:
RQ1- “How do employees of Linski Co. describe the impact of the HR Incentive Program on their job satisfaction?”
RQ2- “What improvements can be made to the HRIP to increase job satisfaction?”
5
Using the Correct Design
Method is Qualitative
Some Mixed Methods is possible (secondary quantitative data)
Design should match the purpose
Example: Study is stated as a “description” of human experiences regarding a bounded system (one organization)
Understanding human experiences – Qualitative
Describing (not interpreting) experiences – Descriptive
Bounded system – Case study
Action Research
Must use the AR cycles to implement small changes and reflect
Process Improvement
Requires researcher to actually implement the improvement
Phenomenology
Incorporates whole person (in-depth analysis/interpretation)
Descriptive (Design)
Surface level explanation of findings without a bounded system
6
DSP Minimum Requirements
Theoretical Framework – 2+ Theories/Models
These are provided in Chapter 2 but may be used to assist in instrument creation or data analysis
Sources of Data
Three different instruments/materials used
Two primary minimum; secondary data supplements
One instrument used with multiple groups is NOT considered multiple instruments
Two different instruments of the same type is allowed
Types include: interviews, focus groups, surveys, questionnaires, observations, company archival records
Sample
Minimum of 15 different participants total for study
Participants can participate in multiple sources of data
7
Confirm LOIs / Organization
Reconnect with organization
Ensure your design is allowed
Instruments
COVID restrictions
Altering to virtual collection
Finalize LOI signatures
If organization withdraws, find a similar organization in the same field so content stays similar

Modules 2 Assignments
Turn in Any Late Work
M2 Case
Describe basic components of design (use table).
M2 SLP
Develop revised Chapter 3 draft (in template).
M2 Discussion
Explain rational for method chosen (cannot be
completed with purely quantitative).
