Assignment Clarity
The SLPs objectives and requirements were logical, clear, concise and provided the means to an attainable end-state. The initial SLP assignment that required the development of annotated source comments from the previous course (DSP Chapter 1) requirement helped provide the foundation for knowledge building and honing of DSP concepts and ideas. The DBA program handbook and DSP Chapter 2 template were instrumental in forming a logical framework for completion.
The systematic sequence of the SLPs was conducive to this student learning and to the assembling of the Chapter 2 literature review assignment. Unlike the case studies, the SLPs objectives were focused on a simplistic build of knowledge for the literature review. The module step-by-step accumulation of techniques (source gathering and information retrieval strategies) helped explore new concepts and reinforce learning theories that were critical to the literature review.
Drawbacks to Learning
The previous discussion posts address the case studies comments only, where it would have been beneficial to let students address either the Case, SLP or both assignments.
Awaiting immediate feedback at the module completion. Due to the nature of the SLP methodical order, a hesitation to push to the next phase/assignment often hindered advancement awaiting grading comments/feedback. The professor did provide general module notes/comments in the “News” section at the module’s beginning, but often time students learn through trial and error, therefore a form of initial assignment assessment, via Trident email or video collaboration, would assist in the advancement of learning

What I liked about the course:
The course has provided a path, through the Case and SLP assignments, to more fully develop the Methodology Chapter and the Background Section. I appreciated the course essentially leading me through the process of fully developing my Background and Methodology portions of my dissertation, while providing an opportunity to receive feedback from my professor at each step of the process. By meeting the assignment expectations within each module, I was ensured of meeting the minimum requirements mandated for successful completion of the DSP, while the feedback received from each assignment provided a check point which ensured at least the minimum requirements were met.
How the course helped:
Through completion of the course, not only was I able to begin to assemble the two parts of the DSP, but I also received training on the basic principles of statistics that I will have to use to conduct the analysis of the findings resulting from the project. The course also provided insight into several tools that are available for use and when they were applicable. This provided me the necessary guidance to be able to assess my specific project, what it is designed to achieve, and then select the right tools for the job based on that review. This will be invaluable in successfully completing the project.
