For the systematic literature review I was thinking about PECs all the time as major part of my interest in assistive technology, I started my search using WSU database including the terms assistive technology and PECs. That come up to 668 sources. Using the same words in different database “ google scholar” come up with 3160 source. I added to these terms the word preschool which illuminate the search to 1340 article, last add to the exclusion criteria how many articles since 2018 that end up with 276 articles. Using ERIC database with using assistive technology came up with 3758 articles, adding PECs to the search come up with 10 articles. As a part of my search in ERIC I added preschool education leads me to 2 articles in last 10 years. Last database I looked through was WorldCat with using the two main terms “ AT and PECs” in the last 10 years came up with only 10 articles.

I tried different way to look through the assistive technology net with larger umbrella “ assistive technology, intellectual disability, communication and preschool or early childhood” that came up with different results. Starting with WorldCat database; my searching terms were assistive technology and intellectual disability that came with 271 results, 144 of the were peer reviewed and 73 results were in the last 5 years. I added the world communication to the same search came with only 12 article, one was from the last 5 years and the other 10 were from the last 10 years. When I added the term of preschool it gave me 2 books and on articles, It might be a gap in the literature. ERIC database gave me 3758 article, when the term intellectual disability to it come with 2600 article. Adding the last two exclusion criteria “ early childhood” 69 source and the last 5 years end up with 18 article only. WSU database started with 60,992 source with AT and ended up with 774 articles were peer reviewed and met the whole searching criteria. Google scholar also started with a large amount of articles 109,000 and end up with 17,100 article in the same search area. This is my search so far and I’m continuing the search in different way maybe.
