Assignment 1
Purpose of the study
1.- Hospitalization following infections of urinary tract is a burden to the care givers and
elderly patients.
2.- It has implications on cost to the care givers and also to the welfare of the patients.
3.- This study will be committed towards identifying whether patients follow guidelines towards
sustaining improvements.
4.- Central goal of this research study is to increase awareness and improving education on
elderly patients with urinary tract infections on observing measures and thus reduce subsequent
hospitalizations.
5.- This can be achieved through giving a concise account of guidelines pack in an attempt to
reduce cases of new infection.
Objectives of the study
To identify the effectiveness of education given to caregivers of UTI patients and how
well the knowledge will help in reducing the rate of recurrence of an infection.
To determine the accuracy, effectiveness and definitive knowledge to be given to
caregivers in order to enlighten their patients.

Research Questions and Hypothesis
a) Does failure to follow education measures given to UTI patients in LTC lead to
recurrence cases of UTI?
b) Does improvement in the knowledge to care givers and patients with UTI have an
effect in the rate of hospitalization as a result of recurrence of an infection?
Hypothesis
Alternative hypothesis
There is significant relationship between the knowledge given to caregivers and
the rate of UTI cases reported.

There is not significant relationship in failure to give education measures to
caregivers and the increased rate of UTI recurrence among geriatric population.
Data collection plan
Data will be collected by scrutinizing medical notes of geriatric patients enrolled
at intervals of three and six months.
Demographic data will be gathered during home visits on effectiveness and
relevance of the knowledge and education passed on to the care givers of patients
with UTI.
