In today's world having computer, knowledge is crucial. Almost every other business in this world is turning to computerized marketing, Many other companies day to day businesses like cars selling, Insurance. Electricity, clothes, kitchen, entertainment,  food, fruits, and many others are online. Even though it is evolving so drastically in this century we come across certain situations where using computers make the things worst when not handled properly.

In a company we have recently faced a terrible incident where an entire application has got shut down at an ORD airport which impacted, 7 flights delayed and around 10 flights got canceled. Due to this impact, most of the airline customers faced difficulties and had to reschedule their trips. As an airline, our company has lost the faith of our customers to placate the customers we have provided extra facilities and coupons to mitigate the situation.

The main cause of this impact is due to deployment that happened the day before the incident. During the deployment, a stored procedure was deployed where it didn’t have a no lock, indexes and WHERE condition in a select query running on 10 TB table in a GateReader database. which in turn make the database to utilize 100% CPU and as the entire memory got used up the database process got blocked and also had a couple of dead lock on servers, as a result, all the applications which are depending on this database got blocked from the access of data.

An analyst has analyzed the incident and to do the disaster recovery we have immediately killed the process and removed the deadlocks, rollbacked the database changes and rebooted the system. After this process, all the applications which were depending on this database has got online.

For the future resolution, we have implemented a test environment and multiple approval processes along with quarterly internal companies employers certification regarding this disaster and steps to prevent in the future.
