Purpose, Format, and Grading

The format of the case analysis report and presentation is based on the premise that your group will serve in a consultation capacity to a company and have been asked to develop a strategic plan. The whole task is divided into three interrelated components, external analysis, internal analysis, and strategic recommendations. The report of the project is prepared and presented in a group basis. Each group will be required to submit a written case analysis of the target company following the structure guide on the next page. The final written report should be 100 pages’ minimum in length, double-spaced typed, 12 cpi font size, and with one-inch margins. The assessment for final project encompasses the quality of your external and internal analysis and strategic recommendations, and the quality of your written report. Your final submission should follow the format defined by APA. For details, please refer to the website: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ 2 You will not be offered a case description or scenario for you to analyze. Instead, the input of your case analysis is the information, data, and other resources you need to collect in UHV online library (https://library.uhv.edu/), Internet, and other sources. Keep in mind that the data collection is a critical process of your case analysis because the more information you have, the more solid conclusion you can draw. We will have a data collection week focusing on how to get useful data/information for our case purpose. Make sure you contribute to the collection process and comprehend all the information in the databank on our discussion board. The instructor evaluates and grades your paper project based on the following aspects:

1. Understanding of the terms and analytical tools used in your report. 2. Richness and authenticity of data/information collected and cited in your analysis. 3. Logic and consistency of your analysis. 4. Support that your recommendations received from your external and internal analysis. 5. Creativeness of your strategy recommendations. 6. Feasibility of the recommendations. 7. Writing and format. 8. Originality of your work.

Related information about grading can be found in the course syllabus.

2 MLA format is acceptable too. Here is a guide for MLA format: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/

Fall 2019 BBA Conference Information (Updated)

Conference Schedule

Location:

UHV-Victoria Campus, 3007 N Ben Wilson St, Victoria TX 77901

Time:

Saturday, Dec 7th, 2019

Up-to-date information is available at https://www.uhv.edu/business/undergraduate-

programs/conference/conference-schedule/ . Please check about one week before the

conference to get your team’s session assignment.

Please check in at least 30 minutes prior to your presentation time at the check-in table

outside of the Multi-Purpose Room. Room assignments will be given at check-in. Please

arrive at your assigned room at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.

Competition Guidelines

Congratulations on arriving at your BBA capstone course. Over the last few semesters you

have assembled an impressive array of business tools. As a result of your participation in

the BBA conference, you will demonstrate that you can apply classroom learning to a real-

world situation, and you will emerge from the experience with the confidence to apply your

degree outside the academy.

You will develop a case analysis using the tools, theories, and ideas presented throughout

your program. You will present your analysis using a formal written document and an oral

presentation to a panel of faculty and alumni.

Each team will have 30 minutes to present in front of a group of judges consisting of faculty

members, alumni, and managers from the industry. The team will be given another 10

minutes for Q&A right after the presentation. Q&A is also a part of the evaluation.

Two types of scores will be given from the judge panel: team scores and individual scores.

The team scores will be used to recognize top teams in the conference, and the invidual

scores will be imported to our course as 20% of the final course grade.

Face-to-face participation in this event is mandatory, and exemptions will not be granted.

General Guide:

1. You need to decide how many slides you require to give the best possible

presentation. You need to think about how to make the best use of your own skills,

particularly in oral communication.

2. Please remember that you should never put a complete sentence in your slides,

and you should never read your slides. Slides are visual aids. You should not spend

too much time covering basic company information. Instead, you should focus on

your analysis and conclusions to pave the way for your SWOT and

recommendations.

3. Logical flow is very important. You should have slides for some significant

content, such as general environmental analysis, driving forces, competitive forces,

strategic group map, critical success factors, organizational analysis, financial

analysis, SWOT analysis, and recommendations. Panelists will expect connectivity

between your external/internal analysis and the recommendations.

4. Professionalism is also significant. You should dress professionally, maintain eye

contact, and speak clearly and confidently. You should also be comfortable enough

with your presentation for your progress through the slides to occur naturally. This

might be your last chance to practice your presentations skills before you're

compelled to rely on them in real-world situations.

5. You must rehearse at least twice with your team to adequately prepare for your

presentation.

6. You should be able to access the presentation file at least two ways (i.e. from your

portable drive, email, etc.). In past semesters, we have had students who have

shown up with their presentation saved on their flash drive, only to discover that

the computer would not read it, and they had to recreate the presentation hastily to

still be able to present in their scheduled timeslot.

6. You must prepare at least SEVEN copies of presentation slides for the judges.

There will not be a printer available in the building, so please come with the copies

already printed.
