Do a script analysis of Sing the Body Electric using all the techniques we've used in class.  This looks like a lengthy assignment, but it's deceptive.  You can probably complete each form of analysis below in 1-2 paragraphs, and you could even do 1 section a day over the course of a week.

FIRST - Create a Scene Breakdown.  Divide the play into acts and scenes, indicate the page numbers for each scene, and give each act and scene a title.

SECOND - Analyze the Dramatic Structure.  What is the dramatic question of the play?  How would you describe the status quo at the start?  What moment represents the inciting incident?  Where do you think the turning point is?  Where is the climax?  And how would you describe the new status quo?  Make sure you defend each of your choices.

THIRD - Do a Space/Time Analysis.  What are all the spaces inhabited in the play?  Do you see any trends in the types of spaces?  If you were a scenic designer, what would you have to consider in your design?  How does time behave in the play?  Does the playwright play with time in a unique way?  If so, how does that affect your understanding of the play?

FOURTH - Identify the 5 Key Moments of the play.  If you were a lighting or sound designer, which 2 of those moments are the most important for you to highlight?  What sort of mood or environment would you want to create for those moments?

FIFTH - Do a Character Analysis of the play's protagonist.  Identify that character's given circumstances, main objective, main obstacle, and action palette.  What would an actor need to know before taking on the role?  What might a costume designer need to know to choose or construct costumes for this character?

SIXTH - Craft an Elevator Pitch for the play using the key questions a director might ask the play.  What is the play about?  What genre is the play?  What is an apt metaphor to describe this play?  What is the moral of the play?  Why should the play be staged today (in 2018)?

FINALLY - What is one major issue a dramaturg would focus on with this play?  What sort of research would you do as a dramaturg to illustrate the play's contemporary relevance?
