Essential I: Scientific Underpinnings for Practice |
Appraised literature for inclusion |
2 hrs |
Sep 3rd 2025 |
I reviewed and synthesized a number of peer-reviewed studies on evidence-based interventions for enhancing adherence in psychiatric populations. This review helped me understand motivational interviewing, as both a theoretical and practical framework for behavioral change. By comparing interventions and critiquing the quality of the studies, I began to identify gaps in the ways we engage patients that may be addressed with my DNP project. This work was consistent with AONL's competency of Clinical Practice Knowledge in utilizing evidence-informed informed decision-making and strengthened my skills in applying research to clinical frameworks. I now feel more capable of developing an evidence based approach for new, nurse-led, solutions for adherence to psychiatric appointments. |

Essential III: Clinical Scholarship and Analytical Methods for Evidence-Based Practice |
Developed PICOT question and project framework |
3 hrs |
Sep 7th , 2025 |
I refined my PICOT question to read: In adult psychiatric outpatients (P), how does nurse-led motivational interviewing before appointments (I), compared to standard reminders (C), affect adherence rates (O) over an 8-week period (T)? This assignment required the combination of theory, methods, and ethics. I researched evidence-based outcomes, and designing a framework for data collection consistent with best-practice in clinical scholarship. Analytical Methods improved my ability to break down content into measurable, actionable bits. This approach improved my research understanding, variable selection, and data collection reasoning in accordance with project goals. |

Analyzed epidemiologic data on psychiatric follow-up trends |
2.5 hrs |
Oct 8th , 2025 |
In order to examine changes in adherence to psychiatric evidence-based practice recommendations and risk variables related to adherence, I examined epidemiologic data at the state and national levels. Socioeconomic characteristics seemed to be a barrier to maintaining service attendance, according to the epidemiologic data. I was able to translate the data's results into implications for identifying target demographics for more engagement and intervention planning by using my Knowledge of the Healthcare Environment abilities. My knowledge of population health principles has increased as a result of this research, which also reaffirmed the need of nursing interventions that are fair, just, and culturally relevant in order to enhance the health of community psychiatric care participants in behavioral health systems. |
