Course Description
This first practicum course focuses on broad issues relevant to DNP-prepared nurses practicing across
healthcare systems and to advancing nursing practice. Students identify a nursing practice problem and plan for
evidence-based practice change using advanced nursing judgment in the practicum setting. During this course,
the students will produce their practicum project proposal which will lay the groundwork for a practicum
project, including but not limited to a practice change initiative, or a quality improvement project.
The project course is a foundation of the student’s work and lays the groundwork for the implementation of a
clinical practice change initiative; pilot study; program evaluation; quality improvement project; evaluation of a
new practice model; or a consulting project. This course DNP7700 will provide students with the foundation
upon which to develop their DNP Practicum Project Proposal and their career as a DNP leader. Working in
close collaboration with the course faculties, the DNP Practicum Program Coach, their DNP Preceptor, and
DNP Mentor students will clearly define an important practice problem, the context in which it occurs, and its
significance. They will formulate a plan to search and analyze available evidence to develop a scholarly and
integrative statement of the problem as well as the framework design of a clinical practice change.
