Question:. As we discussed in this week’s film analysis lecture, the iconic opening scene of Citizen Kane (Welles, 1941) sets the tone and establishes the film’s main motifs. At the end of the Citizen Kane, the audience find themselves back in Xanadu where the film began. In what other ways does the closing scene rhyme with the opening? Which motifs recur? Analyze the similarities between these two scenes with reference to at least four cinematic techniques, such as editing, sound montage, camera movement, and/or any of the various elements of mise-en-scène.
