Problem Background
Describe the background of the problem and how the study fills a gap in the research.
Purpose of the Study
Describe the purpose of the research in clear, declarative terms. This is the section you specify WHO you are trying to benefit with your study.
Research Questions
Research questions (overarching research question and sub-questions) support the purpose of the study, seeking answers/solutions to problems described.
Definition of Terms
Define important terms and acronyms, including those that may be ambiguous, not readily understood, or used in a special way. These defined terms must be consistent with the existing research and literature. Include a citation to the source of the definition.
Significance of the Study
Describe HOW you are going to benefit the identified beneficiaries of your study with the findings.
Chapter Two is a comprehensive review of the literature and other relevant information sources surrounding the topic/problem to be addressed. It should include a review of theories, methodologies, and measurement considerations central to the research questions. For now, please try to identify articles, books, dissertations, and government documents that are relevant to your research topic and try to produce annotated bibliography so that you can elaborate on the sources and expand the annotated bibliography as we move along. Again, just erase this section and work on the template I’ve prepared below.
CHAPTER TWO: REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
Introduction (Describes in one or more introductory/orienting paragraph(s) what the research problem/topic and purpose of the study is and what the literature review will address. Note: Per APA, the term “Introduction” should not appear as a heading but is assumed by its position in the paper.)
Basically, in this chapter, you would need to:
· Present the essential literature and information sources that support the existence of the problem to include past studies, practices, and solutions.
· Provide a historical context for the current investigation that is well-organized into major sections and subsections (APA level headings).
· Present what is already known concerning the research question.
· Show how the pattern of inquiry is related to the topic of the proposal.
· Provide an extensive and relevant review that includes contrary or controversial opinions fairly and objectively.
· Organize and provide an analytical framework for the proposed study.
· Provide a closing paragraph that summarizes the chapter and leads into the Procedures section, Chapter 3. You can name this section “Summary” (centered and bold as a first level heading.
In terms of appropriate information sources, try to include recent sources (within the last 5-years) from professional journals, prior research, dissertations, government documents, books, or other sources about prior research and practices that support the rationale for your study. You can also include sources from non-scholarly publications that are relevant to the study (e.g., current and prior training manuals, handbooks, programs, and processes of the organization and similar organizations or competitors).
