“Disease burden is the impact of a health problem on a given population, and can be measured using a variety of indicators such as mortality, morbidity or financial cost.” (Measures of disease burden, 2019) Per the World Health Organization, about 7 million people per year die from illnesses contributed to air pollution. These illnesses include stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, COPD and respiratory infections. (Ambient and household air pollution, 2019) Limiting the causes of air pollution can help reduce the risks of developing these diseases. Car-pooling, recycling, and planting trees are just a few of the ways to help decrease air pollution.
“In the year 2016, water, sanitation and hygiene was responsible for 829 000 annual deaths from diarrhoea, and 1.9% of the global burden of disease. This makes this risk factor an important environmental contributor to ill health. Most diarrhoeal deaths in the world are caused by unsafe water, sanitation or hygiene.” (Mortality and burden, 2018) There are several ways to reduce the risks of becoming another statistic to add to the burden of disease. One way is to have access to plumbing, to create access to clean water. Once this is achieved, then other measures can be taken. Measures, such as clean disposal of sewage and hand washing.
