World War I and II
Discussion Week 6
Discussion Topic :
After the First World War, the nationalist movement along with the total mobilization of the nation during the World War I, inspired totalitarian leaders to form radical dictatorships as means to have total control over their nation's society. In the years leading to the Second World War, these forms of totalitarian dictatorships either took on a Communist or Fascist ideology. Compare the communist form of state control in Stalin's Soviet Union versus the fascist program of government in Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy. How did they differ and how does it help you understand the lead up to World War II?
