As a student, I comprehend plagiarism as the act of presenting others' work, ideas, or words as your own without appropriate acknowledgment or citation.  An explicit example would be copying a paragraph from a journal article and including it in my paper without crediting the original source. This is seen as academic dishonesty and is a grave breach of ethics.

Academic integrity-wise, the consequences of intentional and unintentional plagiarism differ. As a deliberate act of deception, intentional plagiarism is viewed as a much more grievous violation than accidental plagiarism.. reference? paraphrase?) In contrast, unintentional plagiarism may occur due to a lack of understanding or awareness of correct citation practices and may be dealt with a bit more leniently (Koufogiannakis & Brettle, 2016).

The article by Carter et al. (2019) sheds light on the complexity of plagiarism in nursing, highlighting it as an ethical issue affecting not only academic settings but also clinical practice. It introduced me to the concept that even in clinical documentation, plagiarism can occur, such as the replication of generic nursing notes for every patient without customization. Furthermore, it emphasized the critical link between plagiarism and ethical practice and the importance of honesty in documentation. This interconnectedness of plagiarism and ethics in a clinical setting was a new perspective for me.

In my future function as an advanced practice nurse, it will be even more important for me to comprehend plagiarism and its implications. Incorrectly citing sources or failing to acknowledge the original author's contribution can result in incorrect information, which can negatively affect patient care. reference? paraphrase?) Moreover, plagiarism can result in professional misconduct allegations, job dismissal, or even licensure removal, thus it's important to ensure proper citation in nursing (Zerby, 2020).

From the perspective of a graduate nursing student, plagiarism could result in failing grades, expulsion from the program, or a persistent notation on academic records.. reference? paraphrase?) Plagiarism in the capacity of an advanced practice nurse could result in copyright infringement lawsuits, loss of professional credibility, and potential injury to patients due to misinformation..reference? paraphrase?)

Without having the FNU graduate student handbook, reference? paraphrase?; the FNU graduate handbook is available to all graduate students online and is available at the beginning of the course in BB for resources? all students should have the graduate handbook as this provides detailed information about how you are graded, the academic policies? etc)) I cannot provide an accurate representation of the policy regarding plagiarism. However, most institutions have stringent policies and consequences against academic dishonesty. Failing to know how to find the source and not knowing about the policies are two different things and really not acceptable I do believe that every graduate student is required to sign the graduate handbook when they start the graduate program?  https://www.fnu.edu/current-students/publications/ (look up graduate student nursing handbook)

Moving forward, I will be more vigilant about plagiarism. First, I will use plagiarism detection software like Turning to cross-check my assignments before submission. Secondly, I will actively seek to improve my understanding of APA citation to accurately credit all used sources.
