Q1) Share three words that come to your mind while thinking about sustainability.
The three words come to mind are.
1- People
2- Planet
3- Profit
Q2) what might be one important reason (in construction, or otherwise) to understand that the atoms and molecules of the world make up a continuous whole, rather than being disconnected?
In construction the atoms and molecules of any construction material provides stability of that material that means proper sequence of atoms and molecules of any materials reduce waste and result efficient work.
Q3) Discuss why is it important for someone who is working in the field of construction to understand the ecological conditions that support life?
It is very important to understand the Ecological condition of the construction system. In construction sites the working site is dangerous area due to the number of people are there and the heavy machines been using at the site. Because of that there is a big chance of having an accident and have an injury. As an example of a threating to life due to unexperienced on ecological conditions like working in bridge construction and fall protection needed. This condition must be field and must be aware in Ecological conditions

1. Share three words that come to your mind while thinking about sustainability. - Efficiency: I think the key to finding a sustainable model for society that grants both human necessities (access to potable water, health etc) and allows us to continue to develop is perusing efficient alternatives to the process we already employ. -Technology: Very related to the topic of efficiency; I think of sustainable technologies as the vehicle that allows everybody to continue to function in society with the least environmental impact possible. I'm talking about efficient appliances, efficient commuting systems etc. - Consciousness: If a society doesn't understand why it is important to peruse a goal towards sustainability, I think no amount of efficiency or technology alone can aid us on that goal. There is still a lot of resistance and ignorance towards the urgency of sustainability.
2. What might be one important reason (in construction, or otherwise) to understand that the atoms and molecules of the world make up a continuous whole, rather than being disconnected? If we understand matter and energy under the terms of thermodynamics (as discussed in Chapter 1 of the text), we can consider that both matter and energy we interact with remains and lingers in the environment, what we consume, throw away, what we heat up or cool down, all of it interacts with the rest of the environment and has consequences. And those consequences not only limit themselves to throwing something that 'ends up' in a landfill, as that is not "where it ends"; the soil, the atmosphere, plants etc, all of those factors will interact with what ever actions we decide take.
3. Discuss why is it important for someone who is working in the field of construction to understand the ecological conditions that support life? Construction by its very nature aims to modify an environment for the benefit of the target users. Be it a hospital, a highway, a hotel. What ever the project, building something is actively working towards adapting a site to meet specific requirements. This requires resources, waste, energy spent etc. and by understanding the importance of these actions we can have take environmental factors into consideration when making decisions on our practice as builders. 1. Share three words that come to your mind while thinking about sustainability.
Green, Responsibility, Future.
These three words together mean a lot for me. I think it is a big responsibility for us as human beings to be thoughtful about the future of our planet and to think about the coming generations. Development in this era needs to be done without compromising the planet.
2. What might be one important reason (in construction, or otherwise) to understand that the atoms and molecules of the world make up a continuous whole, rather than being disconnected?
From my understanding, this relates to how we are all connected and we are all part of the same system. We are not independent from one to another, we all share and exist in the same universe. Actions have an impact in our environment and in the ones living in it.
3. Discuss why is it important for someone who is working in the field of construction to understand the ecological conditions that support life?
I think that at the end we all living beings coexist in the same planet. We need to be thoughtful not only about ourselves but also about all the life (call it plants, vegetations, animals, etc.) that surround us. Is not about fulfilling our needs but it is also about being conscious about the consequences of our actions. In the construction field it is important to know the toxic impacts of the materials being used, also is important to know what to do with the waste that is being generated. Everything that we do today will have repercussions in the future and we need to make sure they have a positive impact in our current and future life.

1. Share three words that come to your mind while thinking about sustainability.
When I think about sustainability are: economics, comfort, and environment. Sustainable designs need to be affordable from a design/construction perspective and perhaps more important the maintenance of the building needs to provide cost savings during the life cycle of the building. If there is no economic benefit in the design and maintenance of the facility, there is no sustainability. Comfort of the tenants and users of the building from a heating and cooling and perspective as well as ergonomically sounds is essential in an efficient sustainable design. Last but not least, there is the environmental factor. Sustainable designs need to include the impact to the environment by utilizing natural resources effectively, recyclable products and cease dependency on gas and carbon derived products.
2. What might be one important reason (in construction, or otherwise) to understand that the atoms and molecules of the world make up a continuous whole, rather than being disconnected?
Philosophically it is important to understand that decisions affect all aspects of the design. If that is understood, then the designer needs to be aware of the importance of materials selection and construction methods. The three factors mentioned above (economics, comfort, and environment) will get affected by the decisions made during the design phase of the project.
3. Discuss why is it important for someone who is working in the field of construction to understand the ecological conditions that support life?
It is the responsibility of the designer to be aware of the detriment that can be inflicted in the environment by not utilizing natural resources in a responsible manner. Poor decisions can lead to the continuous detriment of the environment which eventually will result in natural disasters and depletion of our non-renewable resources.
