Respond to each of the prompts below in complete sentences.  Total length of the feedback should be at least three full paragraphs (five to seven sentences per paragraph).  Point out specifics in the writing; the less specific your feedback, the fewer points you will get. 

Questions for feedback:

1.  Does the introduction set up the essay in a clear, interesting, or intriguing way?  Why or why not?

2.  What is the overall main point (or thesis statement)?  Sum it up in a complete sentence, in your own words.  (If you don’t see a t.s., point out where it should go.)

3.  Does the thesis statement indicate an argumentative approach—i.e., something that needs to be defended and supported?  If not, how can this be accomplished?

4.  Point out at least two specific parts of the essay which “catch fire” and grab your attention.

5.  Point out at least two specific parts of the essay which confuse you or need clarification, and explain why these need attention.  (This might include assertions which need additional support from secondary sources, additional details from Fences, a relevant quote, or more explanation.)
