DISCUSSION 1 TYRONE RESPOND TO THE POST AND INCLUDE CITATION UNDER THE RESPONSE

The company I chose to discuss is Toyota. Toyota has actively propelled growth and innovation in its information systems by incorporating new information processing technologies while responding to various changes in the external environment. These changes include rapid globalization of development, manufacturing, and sales operations; advancements in-car electronics technologies; compliance with global environmental standards; and changes in the Japanese and global economy (Toyota Motor Corporation, n.d.).

On March 5, 2018, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announced a mutual agreement to merge three of its information technology (IT) subsidiaries as of January 1, 2019. The role of IT is becoming increasingly important as the automotive industry faces a transformational period of sweeping changes, including vehicle electrification, the adoption of intelligent technologies, and the emergence of new competition. The three companies involved in the merger are Toyota Communication Systems Co., Ltd. (TCS), Toyota Digital Cruise, Inc. (TDC), and Toyota Caelum Inc. (TCI) (Toyota Motor Corporation, 2018).

To survive this transformational period, TMC has been pursuing efforts toward organizational and work-style reform and recognizes the importance of strengthening collaboration across the Toyota Group through IT, as well as promoting the adoption of innovative work processes and providing services that encompass the entire group (Toyota Motor Corporation, 2018). The companies have a long history of providing valuable services to support TMC and Toyota Group companies. Each of the three companies has expertise in different IT fields: TCS in developing core systems, TDC in the introduction and operation of networks and infrastructure, and TCI in developing design and manufacturing support systems (Toyota Motor Corporation, 2018).

DISCUSSION 2 MIRIANA RESPOND TO THE POST AND INCLUDE CITATION UNDER THE RESPONSE

Amazon's mission statement has always been oriented towards a customer-first type of marketplace experience. The E-commerce giant defines itself as being "guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. Amazon strives to be Earth's most customer-centric company…" (Amazon, n.d.).

As the company is one of the first to have seen economic potential in the invention of the World Wide Web with E-commerce, it has always invested in the information systems available (UMGC, 2022, "What is an Information System"). In fact, Amazon implemented a recommendation engine in their website, which helps the company gather data on their customers, such as their behavior, shopping patterns, and overall preferences (Pathak, 2020). To maximize their mission statement and their data collection, the company recently came out with a new type of information system, designed to serve the customers' best interests, as well as the company's: Amazon Alexa. Amazon Alexa is designed to serve the customer in a more personal way compared to the website; the device listens to the customers' commands and questions, as well as statements, to improve their shopping experience on Amazon ("Alexa, how much does Amazon know about me?", 2021). The device helps the company in the realization of their goal of being "customer-obsessed" by storing great amounts of customer data in their cloud system, which is then used to understand market trends, preferred price points, needs, and wants of society. This allows Amazon to maintain relevancy and monopoly over other E-commerce platforms – and be serious competition for stores like Walmart and Target.
