An independent thinker can be a team player. Their ability to look at things with a different perspective can help the team. Every team needs someone who can help the team by challenging the tendency to want too much agreement, which can suffocate creativity and learning. They are the ones who stand back and can ask why are we doing something this way when we could improve and do it this way.
Confucius said, “If you make a mistake and do not correct it, this is called a mistake.” As our lecture notes said, no matter what other faults and weaknesses a person may have, if he is willing to speak the truth, live openly and truthfully what he really is, and acknowledge the truth when it is shown to him, that person can be respected and helped to overcome personal weaknesses (Roth, n.d.). We should absolutely admit doing wrong. In many cases, if we admit to the wrongdoing the action can be corrected. However, if we keep the mistake a secret those involved may believe you made the mistake on purpose.
A mistake of the head if when somebody just was not thinking, or maybe they did not know any better. If someone makes a mistake because they didn’t know any better is less problematic than someone making a mistake because they did not care. You can retool, train and educate someone on a mistake derived from not knowing. A mistake of the heart are deliberate mistakes or actions that are careless in which they could care less should be dealt with differently because you can rarely change their heart (4D Performance, 2018).
Although lying during interrogations is legal and widely accepted I would not lie to elicit a confession because it is immoral. Proverbs 12:22 says, The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy" (NIV). My department actually has a policy against lying during interrogations and the reason is to reduce any chance of our officers getting impeached for unethical and dishonest behavior. If a person is willing to lie to get a confession during an interrogation at what point would they start to lie during other investigations, it is a slippery slope.
An example of unethical leadership would be the story of Jonah and the whale. When God spoke to Jonah, He commanded him to preach repentance to the city of Nineveh but he refused out of stubbornness. Instead, he did the opposite he ran away from the Lord and set out on ship directly away from Nineveh. It was there that God sent a violent storm to capsize the ship, but just before, the sailors tossed Jonah overboard and the seas went calm. Instead of drowning, Jonah was swallowed by a whale that God provided. While in the belly of the whale, Jonah repented and begged God to save him. And the Lord listened. Jonah went on to spread God’s message to the Ninevites, they repented and God did not destroy them.
An example of strong ethical leadership would be Nehemiah. Nehemiah was truly a great leader as he faced all sorts of obstacles as he was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. In the first place, he was the cup bearer to King Artaxerxes, which was a high position of authority. Even though he was fearful at appearing sad before the king because this could mean certain death, he still sought help to rebuild the walls Jerusalem. By doing so, he risked his life. Great leaders must possess courage and not be afraid of what others think or what others might do. He faced opposition from nations around him and from within his own nation but still managed to rebuild Jerusalem in fifty-two days.
Certain times an independent thinker can be a team player. The reason I say certain times because not all the time is someone that is independent going to engage into team issues. But sometimes independent minds can bring idea's up to team players than would make sense that they never thought of. You have to admit to wrong doing because everyone needs to learn from mistakes. Making an mistake with your mind can be easily be made because our minds can be messed with all kinds of things as life goes on. When it gets to making mistakes with your heart that happens all the time and it's to hard to make decision when it comes to your heart. Love can make you do all kinds of things that you will look back one day and think why in the world did I do that.
In the dilemma situation Arthur was showed some fingerprints and DNA reports that implicated him in the crime. In law enforcement you have to do what you can sometimes to get an confession. If this interrogation technique is legal in this dilemma why not pull all the stops, show all kinds pictures or do whatever you can do. None of this is moral or ethical but sometimes you have to put what is right to the side to get what you need. Being in law enforcement you will probably use that techinque more than any, you have to learn how to stretch the truth to get what you need to solve a case.
An biblical example of unethical leadership comes to mind when King David incident with Bathsheba. David committed adultery with Bathsheba and arranged for her husband to be placed in battle so he would be killed. David then married her she bore him four sons. David was to bitterly regret the sins he committed. An example of biblical example of strong ethical leadership, Kings 3:16-28 came to mind when King Solomon took charge of the situation about the child. He took the problem into his own hands and at the end made a decision for both women.
